another voltron character death theory

angst-in-space

I’ve seen a lot of posts theorizing that certain characters will die on Voltron: Legendary Defender, and there are some pretty detailed and thought-provoking posts on this subject.

There are, of course, all the theories that Shiro will die, and now there are theories surfacing that Lance will die … Heck, I’ve seen posts about almost every character dying! But there’s one missing, and I think it’s time to acknowledge it.

I’ve been thinking hard about it, and looking out for subtle bits of evidence, and at this point I am totally convinced that this character will die. You may not have noticed the signs, and it may be a bit shocking, but here goes. Brace yourselves.

The character I think will die is…..

……

…………

……….

………………

Zarkon.

image

Shocking, I know. But before you dismiss my theory, let me present you with some pretty convincing evidence:

1. He is Really Fucking Old

This disgusting lizard man has been alive for over 10,000 years. Sure, Allura and Coran have been alive for that long too, but they were cryogenically frozen. Zarkon, on the other hand, has just been strolling around avoiding death for millennia. Notice what Allura says in episode 1 when she finds out he is not dead yet:

image

Shit Allura, you’re right! He should really be dead by now. What the fuck.

2. He already looks like a corpse.

image

Building off of point #1: Wow, look at that. Zarkon looks like a combination between Voldemort and a skeleton. You know what those two things have in common? They are both dead. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

3. He is a dick and deserves to die.

No further explanation needed.

4. Lance envisions Zarkon’s inevitable death.

In episode 10, Lance vividly imagines a future in which they defeat Zarkon:

Perhaps this is some subtle foreshadowing that Zarkon will die and that Lance (who will be completely fine, thanks) will step all over his ugly corpse.

And thus concludes my theory that of all the characters, Zarkon is the most likely to kick the bucket. Also I think all the paladins will survive, and Allura will take over the universe, and everything will be great. I know it’s a little far-fetched, but I believe there is a substantial stack of evidence in my favor. Of course, feel free to share your thoughts on the matter with me.

BEFORE Y’ALL SLEEP ON THIS

Lotor defeated Zarkon in ONE EPISODE

image

It took the Paladins 2 SEASONS just to hurt him.

And Lotor’s speech on power had me sHOOK

image

He’s been down before. He knows what it’s truly like to be weak. To have nothing at all. And then, through strength of will, rise up. Zarkon has never known weakness like Lotor has, if at all. And to lecture him on it, is the greatest insult Zarkon has ever told Lotor.

image
image

Lotor then tells Zarkon on what he fears the most. Being controlled. To not be the greater power. Confronting this is Zarkon’s worst fear, and Lotor knows it.

He retorts back with his own insult. He forces Zarkon to relive the experience of weakness with his question. He strikes him where he fears the most. He turns Zarkon’s greatest strength into his weakness.

Lotor finishes off with this line before Zarkon attacks him. Lotor faces Zarkon with his worst fears: weakness and truth. Zarkon misses the true meaning of strength if he hasn’t felt weak, and Zarkon denies the claim, fighting with his fists.

In my opinion, Lotor is one of the strongest in the series. He’s fallen under Zarkon’s cruelty, faced the loss of his true mother, Honerva, and seen the true monster his mother has become. He knows what it’s like to be weak. But from there, he rose. He used both his strength and his intellect to guide himself forward and become something more.

He dedicated himself in his studies, he continued his mother’s work, he seeked knowledge in the most dangerous of places.

And whenever he failed, he didn’t
