Why ‘The Magic Sword: Quest for Camelot’ is an underrated movie
Seriously, this is one of my all time favourite animated movies from the 90s and no one talks about it. So here it is. My list of reasons why it’s awesome.
- The casting is on point. The male lead is Cary Elwes and the villain is Gary Fucking Oldman. King Arthur is voiced by Pierce Brosnan but who cares because CARY AND GARY
- It has songs performed by Celine Dion as is required of every 90s movie ever
- Female lead wants to be a knight and though she isn’t encouraged to run off on adventures, is never told she can’t be a knight
- She’s adorable and cheerful and isn’t criticised for this at all.
- The male love interest, Garrett, is blind and the most capable of the group
- And sassy as heck. I love me a sassy boy.
- Also his song is great 'I Stand Alone’. Bitch me too
- He grows to be less jaded because of Kaylee’s bubbly nature and it’s all very wholesome
- Conjoined twin dragons (with different accents) bickering and performing a musical number full of pop culture references.

- The villain’s monstrous sidekick is the cutest griffin ever

- Lil griffin lives for the chin scratches
- Gary Oldman’s cheesy Villain Song

- And liquid eyebrows

- The romance song is super sweet and his cane/stick is incorporated into the cuteness

- Oh my heart, would you just look at them!?
- Conjoined dragons learn to get along and hey, two fire-breathing heads are better than one
- It doesn’t end in a goddamn wedding scene. It makes you think that but then totally subverts that old trope.

- Nope. Girl is all dressed up to get knighted
- So is Garrett
- A blind knight and a girl knight. Props to Arthur on his inclusive hiring policies
- I’m so proud of her
- To sum it up you should all definitely watch this movie. It’s a treasure.
