Ok galra anon, listen up, I live for this headcanon ok, so here it comes.

Keith hates the way he looks now. He looks like the monsters that imprisoned shiro for a year, the monsters that took allura and coran home from them, the monsters that have been slowly taking over the universe for 10,000 years. Like how can he be ok with that?

And he knows everyone is ok with him looking like this, knows that they don’t hold it against him anymore, because yeah it was a shock at first but they got over it. And he’s grateful for it, he is, but that doesn’t stop him from hating himeself.

So when lance asks him about it and he just unloads and lance listens, it takes awhile for lance to form a response. Cuz yeah he knows what it’s like to hate yourself, knows what it’s like to doubt what your teammates are saying.

So he like listen, “I know what you’re feeling and I know that even me saying this is prolly not going to change the way you re thinking about yourself right now but here’s the thing. You’re still Keith. We still trust you. We still need you and want you to be here. If that weren’t the case, the red lion would have rejected you and she hasn’t so you re still apart of voltron. You can’t help the fact that you’re galra, just like I can’t help that fact that I’m Cuban, or hunks Polynesian, or allura and coran are altean. We cant change that. It’s going to take some time to get used to yourself again, everything has changed for you, and none of us expect that you’re going to take this in stride. Just remember that we’re here for you, and we always will be. Hunks the best hugger I know, so if you need him for a hug just go hug him. Pidge is great for rationalizing stuff out before emotions even come into play. So you can talk problems out with her. Coran is great for stories and distractions. Allura is here for all of us and willing to give everyone advice. So you can always go to her.”

Keith takes it all in, just listening to lance talk and everything and once he’s finished he asks him what does he thinking is good for. Lance responds that he’s here for a good joke and lightening the mood. Keith shakes his head and disagrees. “You keep the whole team grounded. You support every one of us, and you listen when we need someone. And you’re a good hugger too lance. Don’t sell yourself short”

Pretty much they have a bonding moment over their insecurities and thats just shot straight to my heart.

i’m a big fan of “slightly more galra than he looks but not in immediately obvious ways” keith so consider:

(for reference: my personal headcanon is that Keith is of Galra descent on his mother’s side and is, like, a quarter-Galra at most since the Galra ancestor was a few generations back, which is why his phenotype is so human? this stuff could all work for half-Galra Keith too though I think)

Keith having unusually sharp canines
(which, sidebar, means there’s a solid chance he was That Kid Who Bites in elementary school)
keith with night vision just a little too good to be human standard
keith as maybe mildly colorblind? galra eyes from an evolutionary perspective seem to be optimized for low lighting and colors like red and purple, so Keith could theoretically be slightly blue-blind or green-blind (look at tritanomaly or deuteranomaly on this simulator here) (thank u @cardinalstar for figuring the specifics out for this lmao)
Keith’s natural lifespan might be longer than a human’s, if he averages out between his human dad and his Galra/part-Galra mom? i’m assuming Galra live longer than us
naturally at around the peak of human stamina and stronger than you’d expect someone his size to be
Keith is actually pretty heavy for his size? like look at how lance - who is taller than him - is bending over from the wind in that one decontamination scene and keith isn’t

he’s just denser than a lot of humans lmao
re: his ability to seemingly sense quintessence: so @cardinalstar pointed out that all energies have a wavelength, right? so if quintessence’s wavelength is infrared-length or shorter/ultraviolet-length or longer humans wouldn’t be able to perceive it but alteans and galrans theoretically could
and if you think about it, frequencies are basically just wavelengths, so galrans and alteans could hear quintessence, but to keith it might be like infrasound where he can barely perceive it but can’t really figure out what he’s perceiving - boom, “weird energy in the desert”
even if he’s not thrilled about it, tolerates being alone better than a lot of humans (we’re a pretty hypersocial species as a whole), which is how he didn’t go nuts being stuck in a shack in the desert for a year
keith may not have the big fluffy galra ears but he secretly can wiggle his human ears better than most people
if galra have tapetum lucidum like cats, keith’s eyes being a little shiny if you look at them from juuust the right angle
