This feels like some bullshit my mind would conjur up while I’m fading in and out of sleep..
Interestingly enough this ‘caterpillar rave’ is a defense mechanism against a specific parasitic fly that lay eggs on the head of the caterpillars. The hatched maggots eat their way into the bigger insects for their own survive. To prevent this happening the caterpillars react to the sound frequencies which match the most of the flight sound of the flies which cause the spinning and swirling when ‘screamed’ at them
