I posted this on my private Twitter but I felt this was relevant here as well
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe by “repost” they mean, “copy, paste, & never attribute to the correct original artist.”
Because if I see some art that is fan-damn-tastic, I am going to share it everywhere WITH the artist’s name attached (wherever possible; I am happy to correct previous unwitting posts of someone else stealing the art!) so that the artist will get lots of curiosity and lots of searches and lots of new fans.
New fans always bring the possibility of compliments, encouragements, and commissions!
Credit or none regardless, if an artist explicitly states that they do not want anyone posting their works without consent is still bad.
Just because credit is given does not immediately excuse an individual for reposting without the artist’s permission. Because in the end, while “credit” is there, majority of the time the exposure does not go to the original artist themselves, but to whoever made the post.
TLDR; Don’t repost at all unless stated otherwise by the artist or if you have been given permission. Credit is useless when it isn’t properly given to you.
