My favorite Headcannon is if the Umbrella Scene didnt happen in Orgins because imagine:

•marinette just assumes Adrien is as bad as Chloe and just chooses to avoid him

•Adrien gets frustrated with Marinette dismissing him so he just decides she’s assumptive and stop trying to apologize

•Adrien complains to Nino about “stubborn Dupain-Cheng” and Nino is amused and suggests “yea and don’t you just hate how she smells like vanilla and strawberries” and Adrien is like “yea! and don’t get me started on-“ but stops and blushes because why must Nino expose him like this?

•marinette sometimes mocks Adrien to Tikki or Alya; “oh I’m Adrien Agreste; I’m gifted at the piano and fencing, blah blah blah” but doesn’t realize that’s she’s complimenting him constantly even though Alya tries to hint to her about it

•Adrien is lowkey calling out Marinette during class by saying to Bustier “some people can’t listen and forgive others” and Marinette just sits behind him and mocks him while he talks

•marienette tells bustier “well maybe if some people understood how to not do mean things in the first place or at least be sorry they would deserve an explanation

•we get lots of scenes where Marinette and Adrien are in each other’s faces, lots of sassy arguing and always them calling each other only by their last names

•meanwhile Chat and LB had revealed their crushes on each other way early on but Ladybug shut it down saying “I’m sorry but this is our job. We’re going on missions, not dates, we can’t be together Chat noir” they stop flirting and being romantic but they both secretly still have repressed feelings for each other

•ladybug and chat becomes a badass best friend duo (still pretty cannon)

•in Evillustator, Chat is annoyed about having to watch Marinette but just sucks it up and goes since Ladybug asked him to

•When Chat gets to her house Mari has a plate of passion fruit macaroons ready because she just so happens to be making them (or maybe it’s because Chat told ladybug he loves passion fruit on a missions once)

•Chat is shocked and weirded out by how sweet Mari is to his alter ego and wonders why she can’t be this nice to Adrien but just thinks it’s because chat is a hero and all

•Chat can’t help but make a snarky comment to Marinette (maybe because she mentioned a certain annoying Adrien to him) and she turns into Sassinette for a second and snatches his half eaten macaroon rom his hand saying she’ll give them back if he apologizes

•Mari and chat get really in each other’s faces and stare intensely seeing who will break first

•Chat leans back and inhales “Sorry, princess” & Marinette stares for a moment before smiling softly and giving his macaroon back “you’re forgiven, I’m sorry too”

•Chat meant to call Mari “princess” sarcastically but it makes her heart flutter anyways

•Chat wonders if only Marinette would let Adrien apologize whether it would be that easy to forgive

•Alya asks Mari about her time with Chat at the ends of the episodes and Adrien blushes as he heard Marinette go on about how cool he is

•in Horrificator, Adrienette are made the leads because Alya and Nino are attempting to get them to be friends and put an end to this stupid feud

•they freak out when they hear about the kiss

•in Animan, Nino himself invites Mari to the zoo but asks if Adrien will come for support since he’s nervous, Adrien doesn’t understand why Nino likes Marinette but he says “I’ll help you out but only because you’re helpless”

•little to Adriens knowledge this whole this is another elaborate plan from Alya and Nino to have Adrien & Marinette end up “alone” at the zoo together (Alya and Nino are secretly watching from afar)

•in Kung Food, Adrienette are both annoyed that Alya set them up but Mari genuinely needs help and Adrien does actually want to practice his Chinese

•when Chloe is racist tho Adrien calls her out and after Chloe leaves Adrien tells Mari “look I don’t like you, Dupain-Cheng. But no one deserves that treatment” and even reluctantly reveals to Marinette that Sifu does like her

•it’s quiet for a moment and marinette just kinda nudges him with her hand and whispers “thanks”

•Chat complains about this girl that is stubborn about not letting him apologize and he doesn’t know what to do, Ladybug tells him to find a common interest and try to bond with her

•Lb complains about this jerk in her class and chat says “why don’t you give him a chance and if he’s still a jerk I’ll handle him!”

•In Gamer, Mari signs up for the tournament because she knows she’s good and wants to rub it in Agrestes face (she didn’t know they would be partnered)

•marinette pulverized Adrien but then they have to be partners and Adrien is gonna refuse at first but remember ladybugs suggestion so he decides to try it anyways

•marinette doesnt try to get out of the tournament because she’s trying to give Adrien a shot like Chat said to

•When adrien comes over Mari is panicking to get a bunch of chat noir stuff off her walls because she think Adrien will make fun of her

•the gaming scene is similar just a little more angsty and competitive and Mari still gives him her lucky charm but it’s because she feels bad since Adrien reveals he spends most time cooped up in his room at home with little free time and can only play the game alone and he’s not even that good at it

•the rest of the episodes goes pretty similar except instead of marinette saying “he’s always so over the top” When chat leaves her on the roof she tells Tikki “he’s so cool!”

•in Volpina, Marinette was just in the library for research and doesn’t want to follow Adrien but Tikki says she needs the book

•marinette realized Lila is lying about LB and the Fox miraculous but doesn’t say anything since she’s not jealous, she just hopes Agreste isn’t really that dumb

•the rest of the ep goes pretty similar but except it (the season finale) ends with the umbrella scene

•adrien says “look, today I found out this one person lied to me and I realized when people get wrong information it can lead to bad things so i just wanted to make sure you have all the right information” *gives the same umbrella scene explanation*

•marinette has a pretty similar reaction to cannon but she makes her acceptance of the apology verbal this time “I’m sorry I didn’t give you a chance to explain”

•Adrien says “see you tomorrow, Marinette” and leaves

•marinette stammers and tells Tikki “h-he called me marinette”

A Miraculous Ladybug Reveal Fanfiction

Summary: After the events of Oblivio, something about Chat Noir and Ladybug’s kiss forged a bond that draws them together, despite their memory loss. Meanwhile, the universe seems insistent that Marinette and Adrien reunite, but this has some drawbacks. Namely, they can’t seem to stop holding hands.

At school the day after Oblivio, Adrien is cramming books into his locker when it happens. There’s a tingle against his right palm, like wind passing across his skin. Bewildered, he looks around, wondering if maybe it’s a draft from one of the windows, but none of them are open. Nobody else seems to have had the curious sensation, because the hallway is bustling with students going about their normal routines. It’s a normal Wednesday for everyone else. But yesterday wasn’t normal for Adrien.

Yesterday, he kissed Ladybug, and can’t for the life of him figure out how it happened.

He does one more glance around, and the tingling intensifies into a distinct warmth. As if someone is holding his hand. He nearly drops his book bag and glances over his shoulder again, wondering if this is some kind of medical emergency. Is this a symptom for something? Maybe he should have paid more attention in anatomy.

Then he notices Marinette. She has her locker door open, so he can’t see her face, but she is opening and closing her left hand, as if she’s having the same problem. Adrien finishes unloading his books, grabs his math notes, and wanders over to her. She closes her locker door at that very moment, and suddenly they’re face to face. Her eyes widen and she jumps back, arms flailing. A few students around them duck to avoid getting hit.

“Agh! You scared me! How long have you been standing there?”

He can’t help but smile. “Sorry! Not long, I literally just walked up.”

“Oh. Hi?”

“Hi.” He’s never really noticed before, but Marinette’s eyes are really, really blue. Like the ocean. Peaceful, deep, mysterious. A riptide, pulling him in.

“D-Did you…need something?”

He blinks, startled. “Oh right.” Now that he thinks about it, it feels weird to ask if something’s wrong with her hand. “Uh, never mind.”

They stare at each other awkwardly for a moment, before Adrien’s hand moves of its own volition. It seems Marinette’s does the same thing, because the hands meet mid-distance between them and interlock fingers. They both stare in horror; they’re holding hands.

Never mind how right it feels to be connected to her (which…why is Adrien even thinking that?), this should not be happening. What is going on?

Adrien wrestles his hand away, which is harder than he expected. It’s like pulling two strong magnets apart. He feels strangely disappointed when he’s finally able to get free, though this thought is quickly surpassed by the fact that he is completely mortified. “I…I am so sorry. I have no idea what just happened.”

“Me either,” Marinette says faintly. “We should…um…go to class.”

“Yeah.”

They part eagerly, and Adrien doesn’t have to look in the reflection of the glass door to his classroom to know his face is beet red. And the worst thing? The curious sensation of someone holding his hand is still there. And it’s getting worse.

When Gabriel realizes that Ladybug has a thing for his son, he strategically sets up advertisements of Adrien shirtless all over the city, to distract her while she’s fighting the next akuma. It’s super effective!

Part two of a two-shot. 1100 words. Rated PG for mild comedic ogling.

Adrien had been self-conscious all morning. It was normal for people to get excited about the new ads, and he was used to people whispering and blushing around him more than usual, but this time it was different. He’d never done a shirtless ad before, and even his friends were acting oddly around him afterward. Well, it was mostly Marinette that was being strange, and he didn’t want to ask her about it.

He was relieved when an akuma was spotted. Finally! He’d felt like he’d been waiting forever for a chance to be someone else for a while. As soon as he reached the battle, he suspected something might be wrong with his partner. She had let herself get knocked around, which was unusual for her, but she was also in a terrible mood, not to mention very sunburned, though that probably had nothing to do with her current state.

The second time he rescued her, he thought maybe she was sick, and that the redness in her cheeks was due to fever, not sunburn. By the fourth time he rescued her, he was seriously concerned.

There were other odd things about her behavior that he couldn’t explain, too. She was awkward, distracted, and she’d spent almost the entire fight staring at him. He’d spent a lot of time imagining what Ladybug staring at him would be like. It was usually highly romantic and ended with him hugging his pillow and Plagg making retching noises in the background. It was nothing like the reality he now faced. Ladybug’s eyes bored into him, hard and slightly manic. He wasn’t sure what to make of it, and he wasn’t sure he was brave enough to ask her about it.

They chased the akuma around a corner and found themselves face-to-face with another one of the ads. Why, oh why, did the akuma keep leading them back to these stupid things? Cat Noir was tempted to cataclysm it, but he stopped himself. It would raise too many questions.

Ladybug seemed to having as strong of a reaction as he was having. She whipped around to him and starting staring again.

And that was when he realized it. Ladybug hated Adrien. She wasn’t staring at Cat Noir, exactly. She was avoiding the billboards. She was disgusted by them, couldn’t even stand to look at pictures of him.

He believed that for all of two minutes, until he found her after getting separated again. She was staring at a billboard, face redder than he’d yet seen it, openmouthed. He landed as quietly as he could next to her, but she shrieked anyway.

"I wasn’t distracted!“ she screamed at him.

"I never said anything about-”

"I wasn’t staring!“ Her eyes flicked back toward the billboard before fixing on his face, desperate to prove wrong the new, tantalizing idea that was forming in his mind.

"Let’s go akuma!” she yelled. “I mean, fight. Fight the akuma.”

Cat Noir didn’t move, letting his gaze volley back and forth between her and the billboard. A sunburn, ha! She’d been blushing this whole time! Hate him? Ha!

A smirk sprouted on Cat Noir’s face. “You think he’s attractive, don’t you?”

"No!“

Cat Noir leaned in, letting her flustered, red face fill his vision. "You have a massive crush on him, don’t you?”

"NO!“

That was all he needed to hear. Next time he saw his father, he was going to give him a big hug. Ladybug liked him! She thought he was handsome!

"You want to stare at him all day, don’t you?” he asked, too giddy to stop himself, even when his partner gave him a menacing look. “Maybe you should sneak over to his house later. I bet he’ll let you stare at his muscles in person.”

"Can we just fight the monster, please?“ Ladybug said. Every bit of her visible skin was a deep shade of crimson by now, and she was using a hand to block her view of the billboard, all pretense of not avoiding it gone.

”Abs-olutely.“

Ladybug wrinkled her nose and jumped away, but that didn’t stop the stream of gleeful puns.

"I can see why you like him so much, My Lady. He’s such a suit-able match for you.” This earned him a slap on the shoulder.

When she told him to hurry up, he told her to keep her shirt on. When she lied about liking Adrien a second time, he joked about her being in denial of the naked truth. She threatened to toss him into the Seine for that one.

Each joke made Ladybug angrier. (Though, when he accused Gabriel of being a very clothes-minded man, she laughed.) She got more ferocious with the akuma, and he finally realized that his puns were actually helping the fight. She focused on being angry instead of the on the ads, and it was clearing her head.

One thing he couldn’t figure out: Why was she glancing at him with concern? He caught the brief pitying frowns she threw at him, between her angry scowls, and he wasn’t sure what they were for. He was having the time of his life, and it showed.

Once they’d discovered the antidote was puns, the distraction of the billboards didn’t have much of an effect on their fighting. The battle took a little longer than normal, but they cleansed the akuma and set everything right within a few minutes, like they always did, and none of Paris seemed to be the wiser about the delay.

They fistbumped atop the Pont Neuf, overlooking the river. Ladybug waited next to him as the white butterfly fluttered out of sight, completely harmless, and then rested a hand on his shoulder. “Thank you,” she said, voice earnest. “You really helped me focus.”

That had honestly not been on his mind at all, but okay. “You’re welcome,” he said.

"That was-“ She removed her hand and looked away, down toward the swirling water. Her hair hung limp and damp from her own swim a few minutes earlier. "Are you okay? We don’t have to talk about my crush on Adrien if it makes you uncomfortable,” she said quickly. “But that was probably difficult for you, and I wanted to you know I’m grateful for your help, and to make sure you were okay, and… yeah. Sorry.”

So that’s what the pity had been about. She thought he was hiding his broken heart behind a wall of puns. To be fair, he did that a lot and she knew it, but NOT TODAY!

"What can I say?“ He pulled himself up to his full height and threw out his chest impressively. "I’m an im-pec-able partner.”

Ladybug knocked him off the bridge and straight into the river, and he smiled the whole way down.

Okay, so @pope-duwang-i left a comment ages ago (on ch 3 of Seeing Double) about Gabriel making a shirtless ad campaign when he realizes Ladybug has a thing for his son, to distract her while she’s fighting. And a few weeks later I made that pun about pecs, and then those two things combined together to form this beautiful monstrosity. (I’m not even sorry.) Thanks for reading!

As his transformation drops, Adrien drops to the ground and covers his face with his hands, bursting into tears.

“I can’t do this anymore,” Adrien cries, his entire body shaking, “Plagg, I c-can’t. No one cares and I can’t. I c-can’t.”

Plagg zips up and tries to wedge himself in between Adrien’s shaking hands, but is unsuccessful. He hovers in front of the kneeling boy instead, brows furrowed in concern.

“Adrien,” he says, worry evident in his tone.

Adrien just shakes his head in his hands, refusing to look up as he continues.

“I-I hate how m-my father treats me like CRAP a-and like I don’t even matter, and I hate how L-Ladybug always brushes me off, a-and I hate how I shouldn’t hate that, and I hate how I d-don’t get to decide ANYTHING for myself, and I hate how I feel like I’m b-being ungrateful for the h-help and e-everything everyone has done for me, and I…I…” Adrien sucks in a breath, hiccuping as he tries to take in air.

“Jeez, Kid. Calm down a little. You’re kinda freaking me out,” Plagg says, nervously hovering closer to the boy.

Adrien just rubs his eyes with the back of his palms, trying to laugh but all that comes out is a choked sob.

“I…I hate myself,” he finally admits, looking up at Plagg for a moment with watering eyes and the most heartbroken look Marinette had ever seen.

She wasn’t supposed to be there. She wasn’t supposed to have seen Chat Noir detransform, wasn’t supposed to know Adrien was the one on the other side of the suit. And she especially doubted that she was supposed to know he apparently hated himself. It absolutely tore her to pieces.

Adrien had started to cry again, his kwami helpless to calm the boy down as Adrien hugged his knees to his chest and sobbed. It broke Marinette’s heart to know she was part of the reason why he was so upset.

“N-No one would care if I quit, not even Ladybug. She’d probably be glad I was g-gone,” Adrien hiccuped. “I j-just m-mess everything up. I’m p-pointless.”

Marinette crouched down on the building opposite Adrien, tears welling up in her eyes. Did her partner really think so low of himself? Did Adrien really think so low of himself? The same Adrien who modeled brilliantly, was kind to everyone he met, had a dazzling smile and a personality that lit up every room he walked into? The same Chat who had saved Ladybug’s life multiple times, who was literally essential to saving every akuma attack, who flirted shamelessly and was quite possibly the sweetest person on the planet? How had Marinette not seen this before? She should be comforting him, telling him how highly she actually thought of him, but all Marinette found she could do was sit on the rooftop, half hidden behind a chimney, and watch.

Adrien released a shaky breath after another minute of inconsolable crying, looking up at Plagg again before looking away, towards the city.

“Adrien,” Plagg said, reaching out a paw to touch the boy’s cheek, “you’re not pointless. You’re Chat Noir, for goodness sake. You save lives every day.”

“Yeah, but Ladybug could do that herself. And besides,” Adrien turned back to Plagg with a frown, “what if I don’t want to be Chat Noir to feel appreciated? Or Adrien Agreste the famous model? What if I just want to be myself?”

Adrien wiped his eyes and stood up, brushing the dirt from his jeans.

“Let’s go home. Think you have enough strength for one more transformation?”

Plagg nodded wordlessly, and Marinette watched in awe as Adrien transformed back into Chat Noir. With a flip of his tail, he turned and leapt off the roof, bounding away into the darkening sky. Only then did Marinette release the breath she had been holding.

Adrien and Chat, one and the same. Who would have guessed? Well actually, if Marinette was being honest, she could have figured it out if she had only paid better attention. Maybe there were a lot of things she could have figured out if she had paid better attention…

Marinette tightened her fists at her sides.

‘I’ll make this right,’ she thought, ‘I promise.’

a/n: I purposefully left this in a place where I could go on if i wanted to, but I most likely won’t. what would have happened is Marinette decides to make Adrien/Chat feel appreciated both in and outside the mask, and starts doing ‘random acts of kindness’ to include him. think of those shooting heart memes where it’s like “me shooting you w/ my love & appreciation” and that’s basically it😂😂
