tumblr is so toxic and I see so many people reblogging posts about it but do you all actually understand that tons of you are bullies yourselves? The way you react to people or what they do is SO beyond rational behaviour. If you even get a whiff of what you deem to be “wrong, problematic” behaviour you crucify these people and don’t let them come up for air. It’s awful and super hypocritical and so obvious that you all are in love with the idea of being unproblematic without realizing that literally nothing is
Klance has only served to raise my standards for other ships. If I look for ships in any other fandom and there aren’t 21923 fics, a steady stream of fanart and a dedicated fandom then I’m disappointed.
okay so english teacher’s all over the world have told everyone single one of us at least once in our lives that word choice is a very important thing to take note of. so the vld scriptwriter would definitely know this, since they’re considered professional.
let’s take a look at our favourite klance quote
i’ve highlighted bonding and cradled to analyse in these sentences.
first off, let’s take a look at bonding
to bond is to establish a relationship or link with someone based on shared feelings, interests, or experiences.
let’s delve into the bolded words
seeing these words from the point of view in that episode, keith probably meant to say that he bonded with lance because lance shot sendak, and saved keith, and keith helped lance afterwards. but if we look at the hidden metaphors here, what would relationship mean? would it mean just as buddies? just as friends? or something deeper than that? i think regarding all the other klance scenes we’ve scene, we might establish that it might be something much deeper than just “space ranger partners”. now onto shared feelings. what kind of feelings? in that moment if you caught how both keith and lance smiled so lovingly and softly at each other, and how they shared such a tender moment, you might say they share that similar feeling of love or intimacy. what about interests and experiences? at that time in the series they were still kinda new to the whole galran war thingy, so they were probably just glad to have survived and be able to see each other safe after their fight with sendak and his army.
and here comes the next part, the word cradled
to cradle someone/thing is to hold gently and protectively. keep in mind this was keith speaking, emotional, violent, abandoned, tough, lone wolf keith. he basically told everyone in the room that he was treating lance gently and protectively. i ask you dear anon, is that how you treat your rival?
keith probably handles lance gently because he was hurt, in which the metaphor might signify how he will comfort a hurt person gently. but protectively? do recall that this was quoted after the danger had passed, and keith had absolutely no reason to cradle lance.
these words are minor, but they play a big part in adding to the significance of klance.
also understand the fact that the scriptwriter could’ve written something simpler, like “i saved you, i carried you” or “i picked you up and brought you to safety”. but they used “we had a bonding moment, i cradled you in my arms”. the actions depicted by keith are also very closely depicted as something a typical lovey dovey couple would do.
