We’re not supposed to pick up hitch-hikers because they may be serial killers. However, serial killers often pick up and kill hitch-hikers. Therefore, has a serial killer ever picked up another serial killer and did they become best friends?

“Stop being dramatic”

True–we don’t have to see it.  However, for those of us that grew up in the 80’s, this franchise played a big part in pop culture at the time.  It helped shape the tastes of many young horror fans, especially the cartoon based on it, which ended up being one of the most successful animated series of all time.  It was a distinct work with distinct characters, done in a distinct visual style.

Remember what happened with the “Jem” movie?  History is bound to repeat itself, only now you’re talking about a much larger fan base, and an even more beloved and iconic property.  The kind of people this reboot is aimed at are not the people who would want to support the franchise.  They’re advertising to–and building their hopes around–the wrong crowd.

In the ultimate insult, this film came out right on the heels of Harold Ramis’ passing.  Half of the creative genius behind the franchise is fuckin’ DEAD.  To me, it is incredibly tacky and disrespectful that they even considered pushing it forward, let alone that they completed it.

Even if I still called myself a feminist–Hell, even if I were still going through my embarrassing, obnoxious feminazi phase–I would think this was wrong.  It’s forced, tactless, and a brazen cash grab that’s trying to put all its chips down on the wrong horse.  It also completely ignores the perfect mixture of tone that made the franchise popular to begin with by watering it down to make it “safer” (again–all a ploy to reach an audience that never had any interest in the series).

My cursor was over the “dislike” button before the fuckin’ thing even started playing.  I regret nothing.

It’ll probably bomb anyway. And not because the leads are female. We literally have proof in so many other products (be they books or tv or movies or games) that people enjoy likeable and engaging characters, male or female we want good characters.

Ghostbusters had a GREAT spin off cartoon that had a lot of females in it.

It’s going to fail because this movie is a failure.

The same way The Last Airbender, Jem, and Dragonball Evolution were failures.

They failed to get why people loved the original product, they just didn’t care is written all over the effects and acting and writing, they don’t even do a job at reaching a new audience since they lost the original.

A reboot/remake/retelling is supposed to AT LEAST do one of two things. If it can’t appeal to both, then it needs to at least appeal to A) a general audience/new audience, or B) the fans of the original.

If it can’t succeed in either one of those things AT LEAST, then it will fail.

The special effects look terrible, the humor isn’t funny, the casting looks very they just didn’t care-we have actual funny actresses that could be more than just sassy/nerd stereotypes. But they didn’t write the characters that way because they are lazy and wanted a quick cash grab.

So don’t say this is about sexism when the majority of people hate it. You are silencing not just men with legitimate reasons, but women too. This isn’t about sexism for being disappointed and angry, if anything they’re the sexist ones! They silence women who oppose it! They don’t want to give you a good movie with effort and good actresses! They don’t care about us! They just want to make a quick buck!

I’ll happily watch OTHER products that put actual effort and talent and genuine care into products. Movies and games and tv shows and books that actually DO care about female characters and the female demographic.

Not this shill.

punkrockula

And you can sit there and say “oh you only don’t like because it’s all women.” No. That’s not it at all. Because guess what? There’s also an ALL MALE reboot that’s happening too. Why? I don’t fucking know. But that movie will be shit as well. This has nothing to do with the gender of the characters.

Hell, all female ghost fighting team? That’s sounds rad!!!

All female ghost fighting team put into a tactless reboot because Hollywood’s too lazy to create brand new stories for women and prefers to shove them into male rolls because it’s more convenient? Hell. Fucking. No. This isn’t empowering. This is insulting. The same way Hollywood prefers to put POCs™ in white rolls because they are too lazy to give them their own character. Hollywood doesn’t care about your agenda. They are taking the easy way out and marking it off as a progressive win.

This movie is going to be bad because it’s bad. It has nothing to do with the cast, it has to do with the fact that it’s being made AT ALL. How would you feel if your highly successful movie got a reboot? Wouldn’t you be left wondering what was wrong with it to even justify a reboot? It’s a slap in the face to the creators to sit there and say “Yeah your movie was good but we can do it better.”

It’s like I always say: YOU DONT. REBOOT. THE CLASSICS.

angelrin89

If you’re going to reboot a classic. You need to show respect to the original but do your own thing at the same time.

Not with an attitude of “I can do it better” but “I love this story so much and respect everyone who was a part of it, I want to show my love and appreciation for the original but also create a new version that will be a different take on the same story.”

(Unless the original was an actual bad movie and you said hey let’s try to not only update it but make it better because we see potential)

Ghostbusters is not one of those things, the original was a classic. If you wanted to do a remake then respect the original but give it your own spin. Genderbending the cast is NOT called making it original. Give it something different or new! Maybe put more emphasis on horror with some comedy still there. Maybe take a concept of the original but add a plot twist. I don’t know, something, ANYTHING! Just something to make it fresh but still as entertaining as the original!

The Thing is praised as one of the greatest horror remakes of all time. It had a respect for the original black and white movie, but besides terrifying practical effects, it also decided to play more closely to the book than the original movie played off of.

Peter Jackson’s King Kong is not a perfect movie but besides updating effects it did do something different and something I praise it for…characters. We really got to know these people more in comparison to the old movie. The female lead in the newest retelling of King Kong is without question a superior character to the original female lead. She’s more interesting and engaging and someone you can really connect with. King Kong himself had more personality too.

There are other actual good remakes. They do more than just “update” effects. They honestly do try to do more with a story their own spin while still respecting the source material.

This is not going to be one of those. At all.
