I’ll leave this here and let you all speculate if you desire for it.

A little context… It is said that the Dofus MMO will be updated to fit with the events of the upcoming Dofus movie (and presumably the two movies which may follow if that idea is still on Ankama’s table). The two Primordial Dofus which are still missing from the game are the Ivory and the Ebony Dofus, but it has been hinted upon that these two Dofus will finally be implemented into the MMO. Bonta will have a connection with the Ivory Dofus, Brakmar will have one with the Ebony Dofus.

We know thanks to the teaser trailer and previous synopses of the movie that Julith has stolen the Ebony Dofus and that Bakara is related with Bonta and may be one of the Guardians of the Dofus (along with Kerubim and others). We also learned from the movie’s screening during Annecy that Julith has a deeper connection to the Ebony Dofus than was first revealed though it is still all very vague.

So with the Ivory and Ebony Dofus finally being thrown into the game, I am not very surprised to see something which oddly resembles a light colored Dofus in Bakara’s hand… It could be COMPLETELY something else though! Who knows. That’s the fun of speculating.

Fan Theories: Joris

A little while ago I made a poll to ask people on DeviantArt what they believed Joris is. The answers were very varied and also spread out. In honor of the poll and people’s opinions, I present to you some of the more known fan theories people have been conjuring up over the last six years about what Joris could be.

There be spoilers and a long post ahead!

Joris is an Osamodas.

This theory started around 2011 during very early glimpses of the speculated Dofus movie called ‘Joris Jurgen’. The teaser/concept image of Joris’ design in the first draft of the Dofus movie showed Joris to have blue skin and white eyebrows. Mind you that this was like a year before the 'Aux Tresors de Kerubim’ series came out (according to rumors, it wasn’t even in the planning yet).

Some fans speculate Joris is part of the Osamodas because of the use of a hammer/mallet and the white tufts and fur he wears; these are both traits for in-game Osamodas.

Joris is a Zobal/Masqueraider.

Joris’ nose fueled this fan theory, along with the introduction of Masqueraiders and Rogues into the games in 2011. In season 1 and 2 of Wakfu, Joris’ nose is a much lighter color in comparison to the skin of his arms, chest and legs and not to mention pretty angular and shiny. To some people, it almost looked like (polished) carved wood. Include that his face was hidden with no visible mouth.

Outside of the game, the Masqueraider masks are made of wood and do not match the wearer’s facial expressions as if they were merged with the wearer’s face; they’re solid. In the games, any Masqueraider can be seen smiling or looking angry like (almost) every other playable class while wearing the basic/standard mask. It is as if the symbols of the mask are mere face paint, but this is all because of game mechanics; all classes use the same base/body/skeleton and (non-combat) animations. So with this in mind, some people believed that Joris’ mouth couldn’t be seen because the mask was blocking it and that the pointy long nose was a part of the mask.

Joris is a God.

This theory has several branches varying from Joris being one of the Twelve in disguise, a shard/extension of one or a minor god.

Reasons for this fan theory are: the Eliatrope Dofus reacting to his touch, being unique in appearance and having incredible strength, agility and speed.

Joris is God Ecaflip:
This theory grew to massive proportions during the OVA craze. While suddenly almost everyone was somehow connected to a God in some way in the OVA episodes (Tristepin, Kerubim, Atcham, Ush, Yugo, Otomaï, Goultard, Harebourg and Elely), the 'god’ theory for Joris stemmed from one simple thing which was revealed in the OVA; two demigods calling him 'father’. Joris in turn calls these two demigods 'children/kids’ on occasion. I am talking about Kerubim and Atcham, the two elderly Ecaflips who are sons of God Ecaflip (along with Ush who does not view Joris as his father).

The third issue of the Wakfu manga only gave this theory more life when a Rubilax possessed Tristepin comes across a strange looking feline grooming itself while wearing Joris’ coat. When Tristepin calls out for Joris by name, the feline creature responses to him. Nobody is certain if it was a hallucination of Tristepin as almost everyone aboard the Justice ship was suffering from delusions and personality changes by the large amount of Wakfu and Stasis which hung in the air. It could also have been Joris’ control on his 'normal’ appearance slipping due to the Stasis and Wakfu influence, revealing his true identity as (an) Ecaflip.

Some people speculate that Joris is a 'puppet’ controlled by God Ecaflip like he controlled Baron in the 'Ecaflip City’ episodes of the 'Aux Tresors de Kerubim’ series. One theory is that God Ecaflip wished to remain close to Kerubim (as Kerubim was his favorite) and inserted himself (partially) within a dummy to be raised and loved by Kerubim.

Another theory is that God Ecaflip entrusted himself to Joris after the Twelve Gods lost their battle against Ogrest and got incredibly weakened, using Joris’ body as a vessel to survive. Most of the Twelve retreated elsewhere in an attempt to recover (mostly the Divine dimensions) after losing the battle and have grown slowly insane and/or unstable over the last two hundred years which followed as they had given up a part of themselves to increase their survivability and avoid the start of a divine war with their own children (as they saw the opportunity to strike the weakened Gods and dispose of them). It is possible that God Ecaflip hid himself or a part of him within Joris.

Joris is a dragon.

This theory began around 2011/2012 when the first ideas of a Dofus and a Wakfu movie were in the planning. An image of an early design for a young Joris was publicly posted and in this design he had a visible tail.

The tail was removed when the originally planned Dofus movie had its script changed (presumably!) by France 3 turning down the animated series 'Dofus: Welsh & Shedar’ which was tied in with the original Dofus movies. We instead got a visually altered Joris for the 'Aux Tresors de Kerubim’ series (which replaced 'Welsh & Shedar’) without a visible tail or eyebrows.

When the synopsis of the 'new’ Dofus movie was released and revealed Joris to be connected to the Ebony Dofus in some way, people began to believe that Joris was either the black dragon Grougalorasalar or a dragon which hatched from the Ebony Dofus and took on a humanoid appearance like Ignemikal had done when he hatched from the Crimson Dofus and became Arty. The darkening of Joris’ skin nearly matches that of the Ebony Dofus’ colors or other black dragons.

This fan theory is also backed up by the Eliatrope Dofus reacting to Joris’ touch as him, Yugo and Adamaï are the only OVA characters to bring forth such a reaction. Not even demigods could make the Dofus glow.

Joris is a marionette/puppet.

It is once again the nose and the mallet which sparked another fan theory. This theory has been around for the longest of most fan theories though. The nose and his height had some people get a Pinocchio vibe already, but it was the color of Joris’ skin, his tunic, his hidden eyes and the mallet which brought forth resemblances to the Digimon Puppetmon.

Joris is a wizard.

During very early development stages of the creation of Wakfu, Joris was supposed to be a terrible fighter but had a massive magical wand at his disposal which he couldn’t shrink in size. He was heavily inspired by the black mage Vivi from Final Fantasy 9.

Witches are not uncommon in the Krosmoz, especially during the Dofus era; several of the more known witches are Julith and Goultard’s wives. What most witches have in common is that they do not seem to be faithful to any of the Twelve Gods, making them normal humans with magical qualities. Since Joris doesn’t seem to be tied to any of the Twelve (appearance and trait/powers wise), some people speculate he is a male equivalent of the Twelve’s witches. His mallet is his wand and also his vessel for his magical capabilities (hence why he appears to be so weak when he is without it in the OVA episodes). We have seen him use magic at least once by putting one of the Sadida guards to sleep.

Joris is a part of the Ebony Dofus.

I have to admit that this fan theory is very new, like only but two weeks old but it has been taking plenty of speculators by storm. This fan theory is born from the first two minutes of the Dofus movie which reveals the Ebony Dofus gets damaged during Julith’s fight against her husband Jarj. People believe that Joris was born from one of the shards of the broken Dofus and is in that regard the rightful guardian and master of the Ebony Dofus and the reason for Julith seeking him out after she had stolen the Ebony Dofus from the Guardians. It would also explain why Joris becomes unwell when Julith uses the broken Dofus; he’s a part of it.

This also ties in with why he is the only one outside of Yugo and Adamaï to cause the Eliatrope Dofus to glow when he touches them in the OVA episodes.
