Five Minute Challenge

pisces-royalty

Write a drabble in five minutes. No editing.
I’ve been seeing this around the fandom and the lovely @gigiree tagged me for this. I am prepared for my imminent demise as an author. Jk no i’m not prepared ;-; (literally how have people written so much wtf)

Her favorite fairy tale as a child was Cinderella. Just like her, the girl was blonde. Just like her, the girl was beautiful. Just like her, the girl had a loving, doting father.

And when she was a child, she waited anxiously for her Prince Charming.

When she finally found him, however, in all his green eyes, blonde hair glory, he paid very little interest in her romantically.

And when he grew up, finally started showing signs of liking people, he hadn’t set his sight on her, but to another.

A red spandex wearing girl called Ladybug.

Not at all a traditional princess.

And she hadn’t understood why. After all, she had the clothes, the money, the shoes, the power. All Ladybug had was a yo-yo and a mask.

Once, she tried on a red dress just to see if she could ever be like Ladybug in her Prince Charming’s eyes but when she looked at herself in the mirror, she grimaced in disdain.

Red was not her color.

Sometimes, she would see him gazing wistfully at his phone, his lockscreen a picture of the dazzling superhero. Red was Ladybug’s color.

And then she went home and forced herself to buy red after red after red items because she wanted her Prince Charming to notice her.

That night, she dreamed herself a princess. A real princess, ballgown and tiara and everything. And in that dream, she had beautiful glass shoes.

But when she took a step, her ankle rolled and suddenly, she was sprawled across a white floor beginning to stain with red. Glass had shattered in her feet.

And red was not her color.

She woke up and screamed. And then she immediately canceled all her orders. Yelled at her butler to never give her red ever again.

Red was not her color.

What No One Asked For: What I Have so Far for Midnight Roses

Ch. 3: Nightfall

On the first night, there is nothing save for the murmurs of a thousand wilted leaves. The wind wishes itself a tempest, assailing her body with a gale of frigidity. Like a false lover, it plays harshly with her hair, whispers bitter nothings in her ear and bites it, leaving a freezing sting on the tip.

Above, the moon lies a crescent, a sliver of light in the darkness. But when the clouds around it begin to enclose the world again in their dusky embrace, all hold their breath. When all is cloaked in darkness and shadows, the wind abates and then there truly is nothing.

Suffice to say, no vampire appeared that first night.

On the second night, the moon has waxed slightly larger. The wind, lover that it is, softly kisses her cheeks in an attempt at apology.

She hardly notices, the corners of her lips quirked slightly upwards.

Yesterday, after a full night of constant vigilance, the townspeople had been forced to gruffly thank her. According to them, it was thanks to her that for the first time in two weeks, someone hadn’t become gravely ill or deathly pale and weak.

She nearly chuckles, but then the chill of night sends goosebumps suddenly racing up her arms. The stars flicker for a moment, and then all the light in the world seems to be put out in an instant. As if scampering away from danger, the wind blows furiously against her.

Footsteps. Light as the pitter-patter of rain. And she, still as stone, knows that these footsteps are neither hers or any of the sleeping villager’s.

She tightens her grasp on her wooden stake, refusing to flinch when its fiber teeth bite into her skin. Heart drumming, she cautiously surveys the forest and attempts to swallow down her anxiety.

Ten…fifteen meters away and directly in front of her, light emerges. Two orbs with the iridescence of fireflies. Their green stare into her blue eyes, but they seem more to be peering deep into her soul. Fiercely bright and almost angry, they slink back slowly into the night, never looking away from her.

When she can no longer distinguish their light from the hazy mist of the forest, she releases a breath she didn’t know she had been holding. And when the sunlight envelops the meadow once more during the hours called “day,” when she finally allows her eyes to slip close and her body to rest, her dreams are haunted by piercing green eyes.
