hi!! this one is a bit weird lol im just really excited for mamma mia 2
The rush of her feet hitting the grass never faded for Pacifica Northwest. Her fringe infested jumpsuit and hoop earrings swung all around her as she quickly, but quietly, made her way to the corner to wait for her ride.
The nightclub scene roped Pacifica in just a few months ago when she felt she had no where else to turn. The regulars of the Crazy Cat were so welcoming, so understanding, and so down for a good time, any time. She stuck out every weekend, sometimes more than once, to take a visit and forget about her problems with some much needed dancing.
She couldn’t wipe the smile off her face as her club friends pulling up in the usual beat-up convertible.
“Looking dynamite, Pacifica!” Angie called out, she was quickly shushed by the others and apologized for the noise.
Pacifica hopped in the back seat with Ginger, the newest member of their club crew. “Thanks Angie, we know I love disco night.”
Delaney, a veteran in the nightlife world, turned from the driver’s seat. “Then let’s get going.”
The girls laughed together on the car ride there, each expressing their weekly struggles and praising the gods it was finally Saturday night. They were there in a flash and greeting the older bouncer at the door.
Disco night was the club’s most popular monthly event. Clubbers were decked out in their best disco-inspired looks and everyone was ready to have fun. Pacifica felt right at home.
Her friends all rushed to the dance floor, dragging her along with. “Ready, ladies?” Delaney called out.
The girls cheered back and they began dancing. She didn’t like to brag (and she had no one to brag to) but her friends and her were the clubs best dancers. She could feel people’s gaze on her and for once, she truly loved the feeling. Their movements were the envy of many, but at the same time she felt the other club-goers cheering her on. The girls moved in perfect unison, an unspoken rhythm.
Hours passed and Pacifica finally needed a break. “Can I get a fruit punch, Gus?” She called to the bartender. He nodded as she sat at the bar and watched the scene.
“You’re a good dancer.” A voice called next to her. At first, she didn’t know if the person was speaking to her, but when she looked over he had an unmistakable gaze on her.
“Thank you.” She replied, she was used to getting the compliment, but usually it was from someone she was familiar with. This guy was a newcomer. “You ever been here before?”
“No.” He replied. “My sister is somewhere on the dance floor, she dragged me along.” He sipped on his drink that looked alcoholic to Pacifica.
“Why aren’t you on the dance floor? Not a fan of disco?” She questioned.
“I actually love it.” He said, seeming somewhat embarrassed. “BABBA is my favorite artist.” ‘
Pacifica let out a snort and smile at this. The way this guy looked, he could not be a disco fan. He looked more like a greaser. “Hard to believe, but how could anyone hate disco?”
“Exactly.” He stated as a fact more than a reply. “I’m Dipper.”
“Dipper? That’s a..unique name.”
“It’s a nickname. But I prefer it.”
“Okay, Dipper. I’m Pacifica.”
“And I have the weird name?”
She let out a smile and a shrug. “It’s a family name.”
“I’m sorry your parents did that to you.” He chuckled.
She rolled her eyes. “Rude.” She thanked Gus for the drink and tipped him. “What brings you to town, Dipper?”
“Visiting family. My sister is big on the club scene at UCLA and I guess she just couldn’t go one Saturday without visiting somewhere.” He sighed. “You live around here?”
“Born and raised two towns over.” She sipped the fruit punch.
“Huh. Must get boring.”
“Not when this place is standing.” Pacifica shoots back. “When Saturday night comes around and these lights turn on…I become more alive than I’ve ever been. That dance floor has a way of taking away every single worry I’ve ever had.”
“Oh, really?” He snorted.
She gulped her drink and took out her hand. “I’ll show you.”
“I can’t dance.” He responded.
“Everyone can.” She took his hand. “Dance with me.”
He was the one to finish his drink this time as he stood up. “Are you drunk?”
“I’m 17.”
“Yeah, are you drunk?”
She pulled him to the dance floor and she lead them to a space close to the center of the dance floor. “Have you seen Saturday Night Fever?”
“Yeah.” Dipper held onto her hand still.
“Try to imitate those moves.” She began step-toeing to the beat and urged him to follow along. Soon, he was improvising and spinning her around wildly.
“You are bad at this.” She laughed as he spun her into his arms.
“But I sorta get what you mean about the whole ‘taking away your worries’ thing.” He looked closely at her. “I’m just not convinced it’s the dance floor that does it.”
Pacifica’s eyes faltered as she couldn’t meet his intense stare. He was really attractive, she finally noticed, and her heart beat faster. She had never been interested in anyone she met in the club, it was mostly older people anyway, but here was this gorgeous guy looking at her, most likely waiting for a signal that a kiss was in the cards, and…
“I have to go.”
She choked.
“What, now?” Dipper seemed confused for the first time all night.
“Yeah, sorry, I…have a curfew.” She called back.
“Pacifica, wait-“ Dipper’s voice started to become mumbled. He pushed through the crowd and called after her. She didn’t know why she was walking away from him, her brain didn’t want to. “When can I see you again?”
She tapped Delaney on the shoulder three times, their signal that it was time to go, and bolted out the door.
“Girl, what are we in a rush for?” Ginger questioned.
“I saw you chatting up that cute guy, what’s wrong?” Angie asked.
“I just…totally blew it. Ugh!” Pacifica pulled her hair. “We just have to go, that was so embarrassing I can never show my face around here again!”
“Hey, this is our club, remember? That guy can stop coming but we won’t.” Delaney said, unlocking her car. “Pacifica owes us some ice cream for leaving so early though.”
“Sorry guys.” She sighed as she hopped in the back seat.
Pacifica’s friends forgave her quickly and went back to laughing and discussing the events of the night, but none of them could get Pacifica to talk about her mystery boy. She cursed his name for ruining her favorite night of the month, but the soft smile on her face as she hit her pillow was thanking him for such a unique dance.
