Something That Came To Mind

Gems use light to survive, right? Rebecca Sugar recently confirmed that light is energy for gems. Which is why they don’t eat food.

Remember how the shortie squad found a “plant” growing in the Prime Kindergarten and they did everything to plant a whole garden to cheer up Peridot?

image

The issue was, there is no source of light in the Prime Kindergarten. The plants end up dying except for the “plant” they found. Peridot was frustrated because she did everything to recreate something special and it was all destroyed in the matter of a day. But let’s focus on the word “light”.

image

This kindergarten doesn’t have light. If a gem is being created in this place, then it would create more “light-independent” gems than regular ones. However, they may be “off-color” or have a defect.

image

The Beta Kindergarten has more light than the regular Kindergarten. Meaning that the gems created there were a)quicker to pop out and b)more stronger/larger. Jasper must had enough light to be produced into a bigger quartz soldier. They are more light-dependent.

So what makes a Diamond? They are created differently. Homeworld gems could be more light dependent. There is a chance that Diamonds keep their power through light. White Diamond doesn’t have an exact form but she radiates a lot of light.

So what would happen if a gem, like a Diamond, is kept in the dark for too long? Rebecca Sugar has not given us the answer for that, but there may be an idea of what will happen.

Keep in mind, the effects will be different for Steven if he is half gem and half human. I’m not expecting him to suddenly become robotic like White/Pink Pearl is. This is just thoughts that came to my mind and got me thinking.
