Here’s an interesting tidbit I found today while researching French culture (for science). link link
They have no concept of dating. There’s no protocol for it. They fall into a relationship, there’s no ‘dates’.
They usually socialise in groups and get to know each other that way. If you go out together without anyone else, it’s considered a relationship (friendship or romantic, they don’t seem to differentiate, you can flirt and reciprocate and that’s perfectly okay).
Therefore:

Which would explain some of Lila’s rage at Ladybug. If she misinterpreted French culture that any one-on-one interaction means dating (cause she’s Italian), she could completely think that was a date.
But, until a kiss is exchanged, it’s not exclusive. You can go out with whoever you like, flirt with whoever you like.
Therefore:
Is an invitation to be exclusive.
Is it any wonder the boy is constantly trying to put the moves on her?
(so technically, it’s a movie and therefore doesn’t count, but I love the gif, because they’re so into it).
It could also explain some of Chloe’s anger too. If he’s ever kissed her on the mouth (or she scored one on him), she could completely be within her rights be angry.
Also, flirting in any situation is a given and not to be taken as romantic. It’s the all important kiss which matters. And the French like to take a long time before that happens. Lots and lots of interaction and talking. The first kiss between a couple can take months of ‘dates’ before it occurs.
So… we’re going to be teased for a very, very long time.
There’s just so much to learn! Read the articles up the top, they’ve very enlightening. (also makes me wonder how much culture they’ve actually displayed in the show, and how much they’ve Americanised it).
