ohohohhohoh this is adorable
“You’ve to be fucking me.” Keith groaned, slamming the phone down in anger.
This was the fourth time he’d called, and they still weren’t done. He couldn’t live without his fucking car this week, he had class, goddammit. He groaned, and angrily stared at his cell. He had to get to class somehow, and it was too far to walk, he didn’t have a bike, dammit. He picked his phone up again and started looking.
One app later, he had called an ‘uber’. They were like taxis, or something, and it was prepaid and everything. It would work until he got his car back, anyways. He sat on his front steps, waiting impatiently, leg bouncing. The app said to look for a black sedan, so that’s what he looked for.
A black sedan pulled up to the curb and Keith stood, going over to the window. He was slightly hesitant, what if they guy, like, kidnapped him?
“You Keith?” They guy inside asked. He looked young, maybe Keith’s age, brown skin and hair and had a mischievous-looking grin on his face. Keith nodded.
“Hop in the back, front, whatever.” The guy said, and Keith opened the door to the back. “I’m Lance.” The guy said once Keith was seated inside.
“I- Keith. Yea.” Keith said, feeling dumb. The guy knew he was Keith. But then again, he knew the guy was Lance. Whatever. Keith stayed quiet as the guy hummed along to whatever was on the radio, sounded like Spanish. Keith watched the window and then hopped out 10 quiet minutes later.
“See you, Keith!” The guy called cheerfully and Keith managed a halfhearted wave, heading into his building.
He sat on his front step, fuming. The stupid, stupid mechanic was so dumb and said his car still wasn’t ready, so here he was again, the third time, with Uber open and calling a car. And it said the driver was that Lance guy again. He’d already been teased yesterday about it by him too. Fucking great. Keith walked up to the familiar sedan and peeked in.
“You again? Never would have guessed. Ha, buddy, hop in.” Lance said and Keith did so, climbing into the back with his bookbag.
“Car problems.” Keith mumbled, and Lance nodded, starting the drive.
“Mmm. K.” The drive was quiet, until the pulled up to Keith’s building.
Fifth day. Fifith drive with Lance. They talked, this time. Bickered, actually, over the radio, but Keith learned two things about Lance. One, his family was from Cuba, and two, he could sing.
“Hey, can I ask you a question?” Keith looked up and met Lance’s eyes, just as he was about to leave. He’d sat in the front again.
“What?” He asked, yanking his book bag behind you.
“Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?” Lance asked, and Keith felt a blush creeping up his neck.
“F-fuck you.” Keith said, eyes going wide and he climbed out of the car. Lance laughed lightly behind him as he tried to to run towards the building.
“You’re Prince Charming has arrived!” Lance cried out as Keith slid into the front seat. Keith forced a laugh down, and kept his eyes on the road.
“I’m getting my car back tomorrow.” Keith said quietly, and Lance quieted.
“Oh. Awesome.” He said, and Keith shot him a look.
“You sound excited.” Keith said, raising an eyebrow. Lance shrugged and changed the car into drive.
“I just….nah. Nothing. Gonna miss you in my front seat. It’s been what, two weeks?” Lance shot him a wink and Keith rolled his eyes.
“I’m sure you will.” He said, watching the road. It was quiet, Spanish in the background. Keith was a little sad, actually, that this was going to be the last time riding in this car. He pulled a frayed part of the seat, and shut his eyes. He’s miss the tentative friendship they’d built.
They pulled up to the building, and Keith started to open the door.
“Hey.” Lance’s hand was on his leg, and Keith went hot. He looked over and acted nonchalant.
“Yea?” He asked, trying to act normal.
“Can I see your phone?” Lance asked, and Keith nodded, clumsily grabbing his cell and handing it to Lance, Lance’s hand retreating from his leg. He listened to the tapping of Lance’s fingers on the screen and looked at it with interest as Lance handed it back.
“My number. Shoot me a text once and a while, ok?” He said, and Keith managed a small smile.
“Whatever, chauffeur. Maybe.” Keith exited the car and started towards the building, not looking back.
Ten minutes into his lecture, his phone buzzed.
