walking toward the light is a common trope to signify death, but it also is super common to use it for people as they wake up. what if shiro was injured, dreaming, under mind control, or otherwise out of it, and he is actually just waking up???????

Lance looked over as Keith’s hand slipped away from his own.
“Keith?” He asked, a confused smile creeping onto his face as Keith swung around in front of him and held out his hands.
“Three guesses to what’s in my hands.” Keith said, smiling back. Lance laughed and leaned against the wall of the bridge they had stopped on.
“Here? Now? Are we really playing a guessing game?” Lance asked, still laughing and Keith nodded.
“Yup.” He said, and Lance sighed, brushing his hair back lightly.
“Ok, you win. Um…. an gum wrapper?” Lance guessed, and Keith shook his head, hair fluffing in the slight breeze. Lance bit his lip.
“A….. I don’t know Keith, come on!” Keith laughed and just shook his head.
“An eraser?” Lance guessed and Keith laughed loudly.
“No! An eraser? Seriously?” He exclaimed and Lance laughed with him.
“I don’t know!” He said, and caught Keith’s eye.
“One more guess.” He said and Lance sucked in a breath.
“Ummmmm. Hair tie?” He asked, and Keith laughed, cheeks flushing.
“Wrong wrong, annnd wrong.” He said, opening his hands up and cupping the object inside. Lance leaned forward a little and then his breath caught in his throat. He looked up at Keith, who was smiling shyly at him.
“Will you marry me?” Keith asked quietly, and Lance stared at him. He breathed out and then jumped forward in a rush, enveloping Keith in a hug. Keith laughed and Lance did too.
“God, yes.” Lance said enthusiastically and Keith laughed harder, then pulled back. He pressed a soft, chaste kiss to Lance’s lips then took his hand, sliding the golden band he had been holding onto his ring finger.
“Beautiful.” Lance muttered, looking it over and then up at Keith. “Just like you.” Keith laughed and ran a hand down the side of his face.
“Laaance.” He whined and Lance laughed, slinging his other arm around Keith’s waist while still admiring the ring.
“Laaance.” Lance copied, then ducked his head down into the crook of Keith’s neck. “You can’t get embarrassed anymore when I flirt with you. We’re engaged. We’re fiances.” Keith grinned and grabbed Lance’s hand, pulling it up and kissing the ring softly.
“I know.”
