Listen ….. y’all probably know how much I love Galra!Keith theories, and I’m like 99.9999% sure that’s gonna be canon. But look, I would sell my mcfuckn soul for half-Galran/half-Altean Keith to happen. Just hear me out:

The half-Galra part, like I said, will probably be canon. Like….come on. I’ve already talked about this at length [link] so i’m not gonna get into the Galra!Keith theory too much. (Although, in that same post I also argued for half-Galran/half-Altean!Keith but I kinda messed up the explanation, so here’s a hopefully better explanation, lmao).

So about Keith being part Altean ….. LISTEN.

- First of all, a bit of context: we don’t know for a fact that all the Alteans in the universe are dead. Yes, their planet was destroyed and presumably a vast majority of them were killed. But judging by how advanced their technology seems to be, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them found means of escaping and traveling to other planets to hide, before Altea was destroyed.

- In Ep. 10, Allura says that Alteans are a “chameleon-like people” and that they use their shapeshifting abilities to “blend in with local populations”:

INTERESTING. So …. could this mean there are a bunch of Alteans scattered all over the universe, disguised as other species? Maybe even ….. disguised as human beings on Earth? (gasp!!)

- Now! Altea was destroyed approximately 10,000 years ago, and we don’t really know what the lifespan of an Altean is. It’s … longer than a human lifespan for sure, but also Allura seems shocked that Zarkon is still alive after all that time (although he’s obviously Galran, but I’m assuming their lifespans are similar??).

So, those Alteans who escaped 10,000 years ago may be dead by now, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t have descendants scattered all over the universe.

- …..Aaaand let’s say one of those Altean descendents was one of Keith’s parents. And his other parent was Galran. And they had some kind of beautiful star-crossed romance. NICE.

- Now, there’s this whole “orphaned at a young age” thing [link] which is….hmmm. So, what happened to Keith’s parents?

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and assume that Galran/Altean romances are pretty frowned upon, seeing as the two planets were at war with each other … So, is it possible his parents could’ve been found out (and maybe even killed because of their relationship)? Or maybe they had to go into hiding and they didn’t want to endanger Keith, so they left him on Earth to “keep him safe”? Who knows!

- As for signs that Keith is part Altean, I honestly don’t have a lot to go on—but there are a few things that make me suspicious. Like yeah, I’m SUPER convinced that he is part Galran, but there are some unexplained things about him that don’t seem Galra-related to me:

- One: this whole thing with him “sensing” the blue lion out in the desert.

Yeah, I’m …. still really not satisfied with that explanation. It could be a hand-wavey plot device to bring all the characters together (“oh i just had a ~feeling~”), but as I’ve said in previous posts on the subject of alien!Keith, i suspect this has something to do with Keith being able to sense some kind of otherworldly energy that humans can’t detect.

Could this be a Galra thing? Maybe. But what makes me hesitant about that is:

1) He senses Altean technology/energy, not Galran. And if the Galrans could pick up on Altean energy, you’d think they would’ve captured all the lions a long time ago, lol.

2) Who else has a lot of ties to this “magical energy” type stuff?? Hmmmm….

Ah, that’s right, ALLURA.

- Two: I’m still really scratching my head about this “purple skin” thing (that is, this part where the druid’s magic seems to bring out purple skin on Keith’s hand, and then the quintessence seemingly heals it):

Hmmm, weird.

Well, let’s temporarily go with the theory that Keith is half-Galran, half-human. I know a lot of y’all who are into this Galra!Keith idea are into this concept of him having a “Galra form” and being able to just *poof* become a Galra werewolf-style. And I’m not saying that’s totally out of the question, but I do kind of question it.

I’d think that being half-Galra and half-human would just kinda give Keith more of a “hybrid” appearance, not that it would give him the ability to seamlessly shape shift between human and Galra form.

But wait, what were we saying about shapeshifting before? That’s right, it’s an Altean trait.

And going back to that comment Allura makes about Altean shapeshifting being used to “blend in with local populations”: In the scope of the first season, this kinda seems to come out of nowhere. Like, oh they need to infiltrate a galra ship? sure would be useful if someone could just ~morph into a galra~!

But WHAT IF this was actually foreshadow?? I really think there’s something important in Allura’s choice of words, describing the Alteans as “chameleon-like” and able to “blend in” on any planet. That makes me highly suspicious that there are Alteans hiding all over the universe and possibly on Earth. (Side note: Allura’s shapeshifting and Keith’s purple skin incident happen in the same episode. HMMMM.)

- So just imagine:

Half-Galran/half-Altean Keith is abandoned by himself on earth as a really young kid. Because of his Altean genes, he shape shifts into a human because, well, that’s the “local population” on earth, right?

Maybe he even does this unconsciously, and at some point he doesn’t even realize he’s doing it anymore, he just does it by natural instinct.

- …. Which is why I suspect that, at this point, Keith doesn’t even know he’s an alien because he’s been instinctively shapeshifting into a human being for most of his life.

I have my doubts that this will be canon, but …. dang, it would be SO AMAZING.

- First of all, the idea of Keith being both Galran and Altean is symbolically so…touching? Like the idea of him being a literal hybrid between two alien races that are supposed to hate each other … and Keith being proof that that doesn’t have to be the case … it’s beautiful??? *wipes away a single tear*

- Also, just imagine what this would mean to Allura and Coran. Imagine them being so amazed and relieved that their species hasn’t completely died out, and that there’s still hope that there are other Alteans out there in the universe. Imagine them being so proud that one of the paladins of Voltron is part Altean!!

- Imagine Keith being able to bond with Coran and Allura over being Altean!! Imagine them teaching Keith about his heritage! Imagine Keith seeing Allura as a sister and Coran as a father figure (or at least a wacky uncle??)! Imagine Keith finally understanding who he is and where he comes from!!! *SCREAMS*

TL;DR - *slides Dreamworks $20,000 and my soul in a shoebox* please make half-Galran/half-Altean!Keith happen, it would be really cute and it would actually make a lot of sense

You cannot tell me the fact that Allura revealed Altean’s can shapeshift in the same episode Keith’s skin color breifly changed to purple was coincidental. It was absolutely foreshadowing something.

The world was dark, the bed warm, their limbs entangled so much that neither knew where the other began. The room was their entire world, it belonged to them and them only. They were alone and it was wonderful.

“Can you kiss me?” Keith asked, soft and staring up at what he presumed to be the ceiling in the dim light. Lance chuckled, Keith feeling it from where he lay on Lance’s chest.

“Is that even a question?” He asked, and Keith looked over to where he assumed Lance was, and was met with a pair of wet lips half on his mouth, half not.

“Yick.” He said, shoving Lance away, who was laughing, and maneuvered himself to lean down and kiss Lance again. Properly, this time. Grinning, he popped off and Lance gasped a little.

“Never gets old.” He said, running his hands up Keith’s side and then leaned up to get started on round two.
