Can we take a moment to appreciate Toyonaga Toshiyuki’s acting in this scene? Because it really is brilliant here.
And I don’t mean just the sobs.
I mean the entire breakdown - first the heavy breathing after a tiring performance, then the realization and the quickly setting frustration and disappointment, which are finally voiced in those choked-up little whimpers.
And it’s amazing because it all comes across without much explanation - simply the animation and the voice acting, although I think you’ll notice that the feelings get conveyed even if you close your eyes.
I am always awed by the effort and attention to detail and nuance that the sound director and voice actors put into this show.
