reminder that even if you’re not posting art of him as outright skinny, posting art of hunk being only slightly thicker than the others is still Not Cool.

if you can’t draw him as he is - aka: fat - please practice more at drawing fat characters accurately in whatever style you have. and if you’re not at the point where you can accurately draw fat characters yet, don’t settle for posting inaccurate, not-fat art of him.

same for any fat character.

to clarify, i’m not saying you gotta instantly be good at drawing fat characters, cause body diversity takes practice, especially if you’ve only recently started to consciously/actively avoid fatphobic practices and ideas that society has drilled into you (i myself am still practicing drawing fat bodies and even just other non-beanpole bodies).

if you’re trying to better yourself and your art, that is good! if your sketchbook/folder is filled with in-between practice drawings as you learn, that’s okay. you’ll get there! but! if you actually post those in-between drawings, there’s really no end-result difference between your “practicing drawing fat character but i’m not quite there yet sorry” drawing spreading and getting notes and someone’s “i just don’t like drawing fat characters” drawing spreading and getting notes. because whatever intent it was made with, the image is the same: a character who is supposed to be fat, but is not drawn as such, spreading and getting notes.

also, y’all, please, watch out for this sort of thing in the art you reblog too. don’t settle with being okay with reblogging it just because “well, at least he’s not as skinny as the Skinny characters” like. no. don’t contribute to this sort of thing, please.

you are not over stepping. Being a fat person myself, I appreciate this being addressed. I actually saw a drawing a few min ago that had hunk being ripped with a 6 pack and it made me upset. Cause yeah he has a lot of muscle but he isn’t ripped. That’s part of what makes him a great character. He is a fat character that isn’t mean or ugly. He is adorable, smart, kind, kick butt and brings his own very important assets to the team. Also, I find it important that nobody on the team treats him different or as a lesser human being. Which does happen when you’re bigger. My favourite example of this is when Shiro lets Hunk hide behind him in ep 1 -even though Hunk is bigger than him- and he doesn’t give him a weird look or say something rude. Shiro acts the same towards Hunk hiding behind him as Pidge hiding behind him. The first time I saw it I was shocked because “ oh my god a plus size person is being treated normally!” What I’m trying to say with my long rant is, Hunk is an important representation for fat people. I understand if you have trouble drawing different body types. But please don’t change him on purpose by drawing him different.

a beautiful and very true addition to my post! thank you so much! and, i totally agree. it’s so nice for there to be a fat character just existing like any other person. and!! i like that he is able to cook and like food and the other characters don’t use that to make fun of him/blame him for being fat. like, news flash, fat people eat, and are allowed to love food as much as any other skinny person!! shocker!!

however, i DON’T like how certain moments in the script use his love for food as a comedic thing…THAT isn’t cool. other characters may not poke at him for it, but if they put the same kinda humor into other moments it’s like….you missed your own point yall…

anyways, i digress, thank you for the addition! <3 you’re so sweet!
