yall really liked the coyote post so heres another (much longer and actually canon timeline) keith+animals headcanon:
keith routinely rescues/rehabs baby animals, mostly birds. this started when he was pretty young and continues after they all end up in space.
when hes at the garrison he repeatedly gets in trouble for bringing them into his dorm and hiding them so he can nurse them back to health or get them to a proper rehab center. at one point shiro notices keith acting really weird and distant (well, more than usual) and hes like ‘okay whats up’ and keiths like ‘…can i show you something’ and shiros like ‘??? i guess?’ and keith kind of ducks into this empty hallway with him
shiro almost has a heart attack when keith starts undoing his shirt but then keith is like ‘shut UP youre gonna scare them’ and shiros like. no way
keith has like three baby doves tucked into a pocket he stitched to the inside of his uniform shirt specifically for this purpose. shiro is 99% sure hes in love at this point, the birds are so ugly and so tiny and they make a really upset noise at the light and shiros kind of speechless for a second before hes like
‘keith what the fuck’
and keith looks at him really serious and says ‘they needed a mom, shiro’ and shiros like ‘k e i t h youre a 20 year old human boy’ and keith just gives him a Look and says he cant tell anyone
later shiro helps him nick stuff from the kitchens to help feed them and they sit on the floor of keiths room and shiro finds out keiths named two of them jasper and adelaide but cant decide on a name for the third one so they spend the whole evening trying to come up with a name. shiros really bad at it. they settle on peony and in the morning keith sits in the passenger seat of shiros car with the birds in his lap while shiro drives him into town to drop them at a rescue. shiro gets an email a few months later of the doves getting released into the wild after getting successfully rehabilitated and keith cries when shiro shows it to him
