What if Adrien actually likes Marinette, and has been for a while, but neglects it and focuses all his attention to Ladybug because he believes Mari is not interested/too good for him/has a thing for Luka?

Which is why in Stormy Weather 2, he made the connection with her handwriting, but then dismisses it because how would he be able to be a friend if he acknowledged his feelings?

I think he’s scared. With Ladybug it’s easy, since he knows them being together is not a possibility. He likes the chase when there are no actual consequences. But with Marinette, things could happen. 

Luka and Marinette are too similar (you can bet his hair colour is deliberate) for things to happen. They need that juxtaposition for the relationship to blossom.

when Adrien actually realizes Marinette loves him or the reveal actually happens and there’s actual progression in the characters and story I think most people just won’t believe it anymore bc were so used to having stuff dangled in front of our faces and have it snatched away from us that’s basically the norm lol
