I don’t get why so many people’s reaction to a character being headcanoned as asexual is to immediately claim they’re being ‘desexualized’ or ‘infantilized’. Like…you do know there are sex-positive aces right? There are aces who have sex drives and active sex lives and even *gasp* enjoy sex? Do you even think of aces as individual people when you’re having discourse about them???
also if your first reaction to an ace character/person existing is to think of them as desexualized/infantilized then……..,maybe you are the problem
bc uhh newsflash being asexual does not actually desexualize or infantilize someone. that’s what other people and society in general do to aces, it’s a stereotype and a way to take away agency. so it would be nice for people to stop saying that being ace is infantilizing/desexualizing.
The claim that “making characters ace is desexualizing!” is LITERALLY the same as the one for us bisexuals where people believe making characters bi is “over sexualizing” them.
The same “you’re stealing gay rep!!!” argument is even used.
And the problem isn’t the existence of those characters as those orientations, its a) in creators who make those characters for the express purpose of /emphasizing those stereotypes,/ and b) people who translate those identities into being synonymous with those stereotypes.
If you buy into any “headcanons of _____ orientations are _______” you’re in active support of those stereotypes and /you are the problem./
