My VERY first figure drawing session was probably in 10th grade. I got better just by observing the other people drawing around me and doing it as often as possible. Ideally, I go to a 3 hour session once a week (however life has not been ideal lmao). 

I took a very self learning, trial-and-error approach to figure drawing, which has both pros and cons (cons being I had no idea what i was doing)

these are the 3 things i usually go by when composing a figure.

I do most of my figure drawing with conté and the same things can be applied traditionally/digitally. (The S curve for me helps with flow). 

Keep it loose and make sure to look at your model!!! however, as an artist you’re allowed to take liberties and make things “look” better (defining more straights vs curves, adding construction/getting rid of construction, making a pose feel better on the page).

“lines of action” are also really great (kind of the same concept as an S curve except like… better).
