Honestly, I don’t know why people are so upset about how long it’s taking Marinette and Adrien to become a couple
Yeah, they’re super adorable and are quite literally made for each other (Yin and Yang and all that…..plus ya know, the creators LITERALLY made them for each other lol)
But right now, having them be together romantically would just seem rushed. Neither one has been given a true opportunity to get to know the other half of their love. They know each other’s alternate identity, but not deeply like they’ve spent enough time getting to know the weaker sides of each other.
I like to think back to Kim Possible
Kim and Ron were obviously endgame from the beginning. Watchers wanted their relationship to happen pretty much in the first episode. BUT IT TOOK 4 SEASONS AND A MOVIE FOR IT TO HAPPEN!!!!
They had been best friends since Pre-K and it still took 12 years for their relationship to happen!!! They knew each other’s quirks and flaws spending time together all those years, but didn’t take the extra step to see their other sides in a different light, a romantic one. Only when Kim decided that those quirks and flaws are what made Ron whole did she begin truly seeing him for not only who he is, but what he could become: not just her sidekick, but her partner.
Relationships take time. Yeah, the writers could have easily written a backstory that said they had known each other for a long time and, therefore, know everything about each other. But they didn’t. They wanted a love that wasn’t forced, but surprising. I mean look at Marinette’s face when she knew she was falling for Adrien
She didn’t see him in any romantic light until he showed her a side of him she didn’t know he had: one that was kind and vulnerable. She. Was. Surprised.
And just look at how Adrien reacts to seeing Marinette in a new light as well. Surprised.
That is love. It is not forced. It is not planned. It is not expected. Love. Just. Happens. Especially when we aren’t looking.
For Marinette, the feelings for Adrien came quickly, but have yet to come for Cat Noir, a whole other side of him she needs to learn to appreciate and care for as she does Adrien. The same goes for Adrien. He developed feelings quickly for Ladybug, but is still working on developing that deep appreciation for everything Marinette can do. This is what they are finally starting to do now!!!
People talk about “love at first sight” as if it were that easy. No one can truly love someone just by looking at them one time. That’s called attraction. Love comes when you see the hardships someone faces and how they deal with them
how they treat others,
how they act on a random Tuesday at 3pm,
and how they show love in return.
That’s why I’m excited for Adrien and Marinette to take their time and really develop those deep feeling for all sides of each other. Can you just imagine how beautiful their relationship will be and how it will change those around them, how much stronger their partnership will be, and how much stinking cute fluff we will get?!!! Oblivio was just a TASTE of what their relationship will become.
Also, I’m holding out hope that we get to actually see an Adrienette wedding/married life/them as parents. Whether it be an ending or maybe a quick trip to the future, I need it to happen 😍
