You know, I envy you for growing up with King Alfor. I always wanted to be an explorer and learn about the universe. My father was only interested in conquering it. He once put me in charge of a planet for a year, running the Quintessence mining and getting to know the local population. Rather than employ the usual Galran methods of subjugation, I worked alongside the leadership of the planet, learning their customs. We would only extract as much Quintessence as could be replenished. And I enjoyed my time there quite a bit. When my father found out what was happening, he ordered me to destroy the planet. I refused, and he sent me away.

honeycombpuppy-deactivated20180 asked:

What do you think about Lotor and Allura? Could they become friends for real?

radioactivesupersonic answered:

I think they’re heading well in that direction! Personally, I feel like that’s what Lotor’s doing, more than earning her trust or pragmatically getting her to work with him, it’s that at this point Lotor genuinely enjoys her company and wants to connect with her.

If there’s any ulterior motive, it’s probably that Allura’s the first living, breathing Altean he’s met in the last ten thousand years that wasn’t Haggar and his own yearning to connect with that side of his heritage.

And Lotor’s not the only one making friendly overtures. When he and Allura walk off together in s5e5 it’s Allura that threads her arm through Lotor’s. He’s not the only one opening up more than he usually does in this situation.

Which is honestly the thing I find very appealing about it, whether you read that romantically or platonically- both Lotor and Allura are sort of airing their vulnerabilities. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s been quite a long time since Lotor’s spoken to anyone about that destroyed colony. And Allura’s uncertainty of living up to her father’s legacy, doubting her own power, has come out a little with the team (noticeably talking to Lance in s4e6) but…

I suppose Allura’s meeting someone who’s rather relatable in the form of this young person (I’m gonna keep thinking of Lotor as young even though he’s allegedly not, he feels… written, designed, as a young adult) whose position just snowballed into something much bigger and both of them put on a lot of airs of power and dignity and at the end of the day they’re some terrified people underneath.
