Ahhhhhhhh this pleases my archaeologist heart ♥ (well I think my uni professors would skin me for treasure hunting but pssh, it’s Stan) Also Stan would do well on an excavation site, especially commercial ones, holy hell they’d love him.
I could have so much fun using my arch degree with this au *.* I have no idea what I would write but I love it. Dreams gotta start somewhere and thinking about Stan being given this option as a kid and having something to work towards that was his own, gah.
Stan travelling the world and coming home to Ford every so often so they can swap stories of their research. Stan finding books and odd trickets/relics that point out historical evidence for anomalies throughout the eras or generally sending letters about things he thinks might make him smile. Ford skimming through journals and old documents to make sure Stan knows every single trap that might occur or giving him tokens to take with him because there’s been some close calls or how to unlock secret rooms/where they’d likely be. Ford warning Stan about the superstitions/mythology he is delving into because they’ve both started to realise that a lot of it isn’t old superstitions and those creatures are very much real (Stan brings home proof when he can). The pair of them going off together to explore every so often when their interests line up together.

I say that but this may have been added to my ever growing writing list as a hopeful thing (aka I couldn’t sleep last night because super shiny au *.*). I mean thoughts of Dipper/Mabel going to stay with their Grunkle Ford for the summer and it being Stan that appears halfway through, back from some adventure. Thoughts of Filbrick reacting to Stan’s choice in career (cause of our conversation yesterday actually I think)
I’d probably end up putting my own dream digs into it though ;.; god damn it one day I’ll be off adventuring…or pouring over some interesting artifacts in a museum *.*
