It’s always the woc at DC who are portrayed as the bad girls or full on villains: Talia, Silencer, Cheshire, Shado, Ravager, Fatality, Negative Flash…etc.
It makes me sad because I usually find grey characters the most interesting in every media including comics, but comics always let me down with their depiction of supposedly grey wocs because they never get a deep backstory or a well-written redemption arc. They are either black or white / good or bad. Wocs who are heroines or aligned good are always either side/supporting characters or - with a few exceptions - heroines who hardly ever get the spotlight. As for the anti heroines or villains, they are always shallow, or evil for the sake of evil. They don’t get deep complex characterizations, nice art or any sort of hope for redemption. Most of the time they don’t even get proper skin tones!! I’m so upset- 😤
