Daughter of the King of the Sea Mar, Dooriya was considered the gem of all oceans. Many were those who tried to abduct her and more those who died for stealing a single glimpse of the young mermaid, for it was with morbid possessiveness that her father and brothers kept her from the world outside.
But one night, the whole palace was plunged into total darkness and a hushed silence choked all the inhabitants- but not Dooriya.
Hauled over a shoulder by strong hands she couldn’t see, she screamed and called for help and cried. Her father heard her terror and wept angry tears, unable to lift the spell restraining him.
It was only with the first ray of the sun that the King of the Sea was able to move again and go looking for his daughter.
But the darkness that had kidnapped Dooriya belonged to the King of the Dark Sea, who lived in a castle lost in the Realm of Shadows. His name was Varan and he had the blackest of hearts and the ancient soul of one who had been looking for his light for far too long.
And Dooriya this knew, because her light kissed his darkness of its own volition, and for the first time in an eternity Varan had a face. And Dooriya saw that the face of the king was beautiful. One look into his eyes told her his heart was cruel but only hers.
When King Mar found the castle of the King of the Dark Sea, an age had passed, and Dooriya and Varan had already returned to the light.
In grief, the king of the sea took his life.
