i think shiro was done dirty with his arc.

don’t get me wrong it was overdue for the fake shiro run to wrap up and i did want true shiro back but hear me out.

“shiro disappeared by the end of S2 but dw keith finds him and gets him back in S3! :)” was such a bald-faced lie. what they did here was a cop-out, they didn’t want to deal with backlash, with fans getting angry for killing off shiro. additionally, they wanted the execs appeased bc shiro is popular and they need his face to remain the show to continue to capitalize off him in merchandise.

j keat.on can attest how much a physically disabled moc with ptsd meant a lot to fans, esp fans of color, esp disabled foc, esp disabled foc with ptsd with all the testaments he received. shiro didn’t deserve to die, but since he did, he deserved to be mourned over, to be appreciated for what he did to/for the people in his life, and be mourned over by his fans and whatever clamor to bring him back and all testaments of how meaningful shiro was to us foc.

instead, shiro, after

- getting kidnapped by the galra and made to participate in sick ‘games’

- losing his arm

- getting traumatized and continued to get psychological torture from the galra yet still fought for the good fight

- getting CLONED bc of some sick obsession of the galra towards him

died so young, and while he kicked around as a ghost, he got to watch his little bro unable to move on from him, and was fooled by a clone. so were all the people he cared about. he had to watch a clone wearing his face make the people he love feel small, put them all in danger, not once, not twice, but countless times. he couldn’t be there for anyone or help anyone which i imagine must’ve frustrated him to no end.

and no one was there for him. gosh there was no one there for him. he’s just all alone in the astral plane, just him and his thoughts, and he doesn’t even know why is he around. is this what afterlife is for a paladin? just watching things unfold, completely powerless?

and he had to see. someone with his face. with a hand that looks like his. betray his team and attack them, esp his brother. someone with his face is trying to kill his brother by a hand that looks like his and his brother is just all confused and hurt! keith really came in clutch there not letting him or the clone die (the clone can perish for all shiro cares since keith’s back to pilot black) but i don’t find it improbable for shiro to just be screaming in the astral plane as this all unfolded

and he had to see lance cry as if he failed him, but he knows lance didn’t. he knows lance did everything he could to keep the team intact without him around, and he’s so grateful for that. he wished so badly he could assure him.

honestly i think shiro had whiplash being back from the dead kicking around as a ghost for so long. but i know the first thing he’d do is give his team the BIGGEST hug, maybe cry a lil bc he didn’t think he would ever be back with them again.

i think shiro was done dirty bc they could’ve easily made his arc a path of recovery while fighting the good fight (because it so clearly means a lot to him that he does that) instead they killed him off. and when they retconned his death, they just made him suffer.

i’m happy he’s back now, and i hope he gets to do all the things he wanted to do but couldn’t bc he was a ghost, and that he gets a break from the white bullshit. he’s such a hero, and he deserves writing with care and empathy for him.

  • so, post fight with lotor, everyone’s all in their heads and are focused on recovering. allura especially, because the betrayal was so new and raw and she’s barely had time to process
  • romelle is pretty much all alone. she doesn’t know anyone that well, she’s away from her planet and her people, and honestly? she’s feeling out of place as well.
  • allura, despite everything, notices her. she apologized for not making formal introductions and romelle is quick to stop her in her tracks.
    • romelle: nope, no, nope. i’m sorry, allura, but i’m not receiving an apology from someone who just saved my—excuse me, our people. i understand. 
      allura: still, i….
      romelle: allura, please.
    • they hug. allura cries, partly from the build up of all her emotions, partly because this is the first altean she’s met since lotor and she’s overwhelmed.
    • romelle cries too. 
  • allura tells stories about altea’s past when romelle asks her questions, and romelle tells stories about altean’s present. they both are amazed at what the other is saying, and how the culture’s changed.
    • allura: quiznak! i stubbed my toe.
      romelle: what’s a quiznak?
      allura: oh my,,,,,, the times have changed……
  • romelle’s not much of a fighter, she’s more artistically inclined. she shares stories and poems with descriptive imagery of the new planet the alteans currently reside. 
    • she’s painted a few scenes of her favorite places, and allura is mesmerized by them all.
    • there’s a few sketches of allura slowly filling the pages of her makeshift sketchbook.
      • romelle, spilling all the drawings of allura: oh haha? these??? idk how they got in here.. it’s hilarious though, isn’t it??? these aren’t even mine????
  • it’s been the first time in a long time allura’s had one on one time with a girl her age, and she doesn’t realize how much she missed the presence of a girl with her. 
  • romelle insists on making sure allura’s pampered. she’s gentle when combing through her hair, washing the mice, making sure the sheets are clean.
    • allura: really, romelle, this isn’t necessary…
      romelle: let me help with something. everyone here has something to do, let me do this.
  • the two of them go on walks together, because there’s nothing else to do when gathering supplies or staying at an inn planet side. 
    • romelle was the first to make a move, and held allura’s hands as they explored. 
    • allura was blushing before she even realized she was linking their fingers
  • romelle asks for some basic self defense lessons from allura. it’s pretty adorable.
    • romelle: i can’t learn unless you actually attack me, allura.
      allura: yes, but you don’t even have a proper stance.
      romelle: there’s a proper stance for these things?
      allura, smiling, and internally: she’s so cute. 
  • allura’s really beginning to enjoy how romelle says her name.
    • allura: i’m curious about something.
      romelle: yes?
      allura: do you not see me as a princess?
      romelle: oh, am i offending you for using your first name?
      allura: no, no. nothing like that. i was just… curious, i suppose. you’re the only one who doesn’t address me as such.
      romelle: maybe this is out of bounds, but i do see you as a princess. secondly. 
      allura: secondly?
      romelle: i see you as allura first. the one who saved our people.
  • they don’t sleep in the same room together, but allura finds herself knocking on romelle’s door after a nightmare. 
  • romelle’s the only person who knows how deep the betrayal really cut into allura. they don’t even say a word. romelle lets allura sleep in her room, and holds her in her arms as she cries to sleep. 
  • romelle never rushes allura. she tries to take things at her own speed, but she always asks first. has to make sure allura wants this as much as she does.
    • romelle: may i kiss you, allura?
      allura: i’m sorry, i want to… i’m just….
      romelle: not ready?
      allura: i’m sorry.
      romelle: no reason to apologize, allura. would you rather play what the boys are calling ‘basketball’ instead?
      allura, smiling: that sounds rather nice.
  • maybe allura’s not ready to jump head first again, but the feelings are there. the what if is there. 
  • romelle has no problem waiting.
