If I could be half of what you think of me

Was kinda inspired by ‘love like you’ from Steven Universe (bc I love that song!). DM is kinda out of character, but who cares?

Danger Mouse was pondering by the big window in the Danger flat, his newly wed husband and long time lover, Penfold sat next to him, drinking a nice cup of tea.

He sighs,

“what’s wrong, Danny?” Penfold finally asks the distraught mouse

“I don’t get it”

“get what?”

“why do you always say nice things about me and think so much of me?” DM asks, still sitting and staring out of the window

“because I love you, silly” Penfold smiles and holds his hand gently,

Danger Mouse smiles a little after the small reassurance from his husband

“then I suppose I can do anything, the way you talk about me, including learning how to love, I suppose”

“since when did you get poetic, chief?”

“no idea. What I’m trying to say is if I am even half of who you say I am, I could do anything. Like- The way your face brightens up when I come back from a trip or mission, that makes me feel like I can do anything!” Danger Mouse explains what he means, Penfold blushes slightly

“well, that’s because I worry about you sometimes” Penfold admits and kisses DM.

“I used to think that I was someone bad and ruined everything, despite how well I hid it” Danger Mouse admits to Penfold for the first time,

“you’re not bad! You save the world and everything!” Penfold tries to cheer him up

“that’s what I used to think, now I know it’s true and I am bad”

“chief, why ever would you-”

“because I am nothing like you, Penfold”

Penfold freezes, he didn’t know whether to take this as a compliment or not.

“I mean, you’re adorable, fun to be around and…you’re just you! And I love that!” Danger Mouse hypes

Penfold goes red

“I…yes…um…”

“sometimes I wonder what someone like you sees in a big-headed one-eyed mouse like me and why you think so much of me” Danger Mouse says,

Penfold goes even more red

“crumbs, Danny…I could honestly say the same about you: you’re brave, handsome, kind and caring, you’re funny, when you don’t try to be funny”

Danger Mouse giggles at that remark

“and you’re the best husband in the world! And I wonder what you see in a short and cowardly hamster like me” Penfold continues,

Danger Mouse smiles, flattered by Penfold’s words, remains speechless, he kisses Penfold and smiles

“Penfold, I see that you’re smart, adorable and kind”

“I wish I could learn how to be as loving and as kind as you, Penfold”

“you already are, dear”
