If the straight girls in this scenario leave, gay men aren’t going to magically appear. The bar will just be empty, the bartenders will make less money, and if it keeps up like that for long enough, guess what bar won’t exist anymore? Yeah.

geekandmisandry

No offense hon but we’ve never needed the straights in order to keep our bars existing.

I know many gays who would go to gay bars a lot more often if they weren’t always full of straight people

I’ve known gay bars that actively try and stop straights from coming but Straighty 180’s always act like they are blessing us with their unwanted presences in our spaces.

If I can jump in with a quick story: There used to be a hugely popular gay bar here in my city where LGBTQ people knew they could come and feel safe and at home. Over the course of a decade, I noticed a change. The straights started to outnumber everyone else. The harassment began. Regulars would get felt up by greasy dudes who thought they’d fly under the radar at this kind of joint because male. Drag performers and long-time gay bar staff were beaten up. Management changed six hundred thousand times, each one more IDGAF than the last. Now under its current management, it’s changed its name, its branding, everything. It’s a straight bar that tries to dodge criticism by saying it’s “still gay-friendly”. Only everyone knows better. The community was turfed out with nowhere else to go.

It doesn’t happen in a flash but it’s only a matter of time.
