Moon, River, Star, and Marco have returned to the Mewni. Star has filled Moon in on most everything and the latter’s memories, though not fully restored, are well on their way.
Eclipsa apologizes to Moon about everything and the two share a hug, a jam session, and a friendly dinner.
Moon learns that Eclipsa is working to free Globgor.
Moon and River leave the monster temple for time alone together and plan to build a yurt. Moon reveals that she doesn’t trust Eclipsa.
Star says a teary goodbye to her parents and remarks how grown up she feels.
Swim Suit
Star, Marco, and Tom are preparing for beach day and Marco can’t find his swimsuit and Star juggles this side story with the main plot which is…
Eclipsa fought and kidnapped Rhombulus after he refused to set Globgor free.
Glossaryck tells Eclipsa that he doesn’t work for her, which begs the question, who does he work for and why is he here if he has no allegiance?
Star has Eclipsa reverse the spells she’s cast on Rhombulus, but everything descends into chaos as they start fighting again.
Eclipsa performs a dark spell that switches hers and Rhombulus’ bodies so that she can free Globgor using his abilities.
Star convinces Eclipsa to stop, claiming that magic and actions like these make Star and the citizens of Mewni unable to trust her. Eclipsa listens, undoes the spell –with Globgor still trapped–and sadly agrees that the kingdom comes first.
Ransomgram
Meteora leaves headless dolls with moles in Marco’s bed. She still hates Marco and more than likely remembers him.
Star uses magic to add both hers and Marco’s old rooms to the temple.
Marco must return to a dimension he unknowingly stole his sword, El Choppo, from during his “Running with Scissors” years, and give it back to save Nachos who is being held for ransom.
Star accompanies him and they join forces with his old friend, Brunzetta. Star is bi as hell and has the time of her life.
Brunzetta tells Star that Marco once spent a whole year as a yam.
The sword is returned and Nachos is saved, but the dimension’s people are still in a dire situation. Marco chooses to stay and help them. His time there lasts many years for him but only seconds for Star before he returns, making him even older mentally than he was before.
Lake House Fever
Star is visiting Tom and his family at their lake house. She’s about to leave to meet with Marco when a storm prevents her from doing so. Stuck inside the house, Star bonds with the Lucitors, but Tom’s mother, Wrathmelior, is visibly upset by her presence.
They go through a family photo album that includes pictures of Star with Tom. Their first Silver Bell Ball, their second date (where Star got her horned headband), and her going away party (which Star doesn’t remember Tom being at).
It’s revealed that Tom built the carriage from Blood Moon Ball. Wrathmelior, who’s been growing more and more distressed, finally leaves the room in tears.
Star confronts Tom about his mother’s distaste for her, and he explains that she’s just afraid Star will hurt him again.
Tom admits he knows that Star and Marco kissed and told his mother. He waited for Star to say something but she never did. Star is shocked and rather than explain herself, is angry at Tom for not telling her he knew. Tom rightfully tells her he’s the one who should be angry and that if he had kissed Marco, she would have wanted to know, and she begrudgingly agrees.
Each time Tom gives Star the benefit of the doubt and rationalizes that the kiss “wasn’t on purpose” and “didn’t mean anything”, Star says nothing, implying the kiss DID mean something to her.
Star tries to run away but is stopped by the storm. A tidal wave swallows Tom and she saves him.
The storm is revealed to have been caused by Wrathmelior’s emotions.
Star decides to stay with the Lucitors instead of leaving to see Marco as she had planned.
Before we get into it, please put your shipping preferences aside for the sake of this analysis. I love ships as much as the next guy, but first and foremost, I’m a fan of the show. That being said, let’s get started.
Tom has done a complete 180 in character since we were first introduced in season 1, and for that, I give him major props. He’s at a place where his anger issues are controlled and he’s able to have a healthy relationship with Star…kind of.
Their relationship appears to be going well, openly affectionate and spending quality time together, but as we go deeper, we see they’re on different pages. It’s the little things at first. Going through the photo album, we see how Star remembers these events. Tom sees their second date, she sees the day she got her horns. Tom sees her going away party, and Star can’t even recall him being there.
That’s easy enough to brush off. This was their first attempt at a relationship when they were younger and dumber, before the show had even started. But then there’s the big one.
Not only did he not explode in rage as he once would have at the revelation that Star and Marco kissed, but he didn’t even mention it. He’s seemingly known about this for a while, and kept it to himself, waiting for Star to tell him. But she never even got close. And now that he finally brings it up and tells her that he wants to talk about it, Star “copes” with this problem by reverting to her past method of running away (something she’s supposed to have stopped doing recently because she learned her lesson–looking at you, writers).
The only thing that stops her from getting away is a literal storm that physically prevents her from doing so. And every rationalization that Tom gives her is met with deflection or silence.
Not once does Star pipe up and tell him that kissing Marco meant nothing to her. Because it did mean something. That doesn’t necessarily mean her feelings for Tom aren’t real, but they definitely aren’t reserved for only him.
And yes, the storm dissipates and Star stays to spend time with him, but it feels like a temporary resolution (if it can even be called that given she refused to talk about the kiss). It seems like the calm before another metaphorical storm between them.
Tom has gotten better at dampening his anger, but he may have done so too heavily. Rather than only seeing threats and insults, he’s now only seeing what he wants to see, and keeping the peace by stifling his own feelings because he’s desperate not to lose her. Meanwhile, Star refusing to engage in conversation with him is the cherry on top of her not seeming to be as engaged in their relationship as Tom is. And it isn’t healthy. They’re both blind to their own feelings and needs, so of course they’re blind to each other’s.
Basically, it isn’t over yet. “It” being their relationship, it’s glaring issues, this conversation, and pretty much everything pertaining to it. And it’s a mess.
But please remember it’s only episode four! Out of twenty-one! There’s time for things to change and fall into place as they should. Take a deep breath.
“If i had kissed Marco…” so the real love triangle is Tom and Star wanting to be with Marco lol
And my feelings about the ep are the same of what i said in my analysis before: since the Blood Moon got mentioned specifically, im sure Star is gonna blame in on it about her fellings she has for Marco.
