one last thought about frozer
instead of doing the route they did where chat/adrien gets bent out of shape because ladybug rejected him a SECOND time and then makes it her problem. they could’ve– and hear me out here: REVERSED the love square
when ladybug declines the rose, he is still hurt but he keeps in mind that he is completely content with her friendship (referring back to his line in glaciator). he still has his talk with kagami and he gives her the rose, talks to marinette, and all four of them go to the ice rink. all the interactions are basically the same and adrien still hesitates when he says marinette is “just a friend”. skip to when ladybug and chat noir meet up to defeat frozer, chat doesnt say what he says. maybe he looks hurt but he doesn’t push it onto HER. they still split up but not because chat is being a brat cat. instead he suggests that they split up BECAUSE now that all of paris is an ice rink, frozer could be anywhere and they should try to look for him first. ladybug disagrees, saying they should have a plan ready first as chat starts to leave but he reassures with a “ill keep an ICE out milady/bugaboo/etc”.
so they both are split up and looking for frozer and the same thing happens, frozer tries to get in a surprise attack on ladybug and chat knocks him out of the way. ladybug says “thanks” and chat winks etc. the rest is the same. BY THE VERY END, when they are all leaving the ice rink and adrien is talking to kagami he doesnt say “..and I’m not changing my target, even if it means failing over and over again. cause one day i will succeed and hit it”, instead he thanks her for the advice and coming out to the ice skating rink with him. maybe she asks him if he’s “successfully changed targets” and he responds with a bashful “it’s a work in progress”. kagami goes on her way and instead of marinette glancing at adrien, he’s glancing at her talking to felipe. he smiles and once he starts to get into his car luka is asking marinette if she wants to take the subway together. again, the end scene is essentially the same.
from episodes here on out, adrien starts to fall for marinette HOWEVER she’s starting to accept that adrien is “just a friend” and there really will be nothing between them. so now it’s going to start looking more like adrien -> marinette rather than marinette -> adrien. in regards to ladybug and chat noir, they both act the same and chat still calls her “milady” and “bugaboo” but it’s all friendly and there’s no “chill between us” moments. we dont start to see it right away but ladybug starts to see CHAT in a different light so now it’s ladybug -> chat noir instead of chat noir -> ladybug. this way they’re falling in love with both sides of each other and we may possibly get to see some new dynamics WHILE, avoiding the whole frozer incident.
these are just my thoughts on it though!

After Glaciator, I would’ve thought that’s the route that they were going for… have you ever considered being a writer for the show?
@drawescapism Oh man, I wish! But yeah, same here. I won’t lie, it feels like they really missed an opportunity there and there’s a chance that they’ll take this route eventually? They might not being trying to flip the love square yet because ML has been renewed for….2 more seasons after season 3? I believe?? and they might just be trying to stretch out the marinette -> adrien and chat noir -> ladybug dynamic
@chatonstein I agree! But wow, that’s good to know :D I saw your tags too and I agree with what you said about Chat/Adrien’s attitude in Frozer did him a disservice. I watched Glaciator back and it made Adrien look like he didn’t genuinely mean what he said… Frozer seemed like the perfect setup. And no worries, it’s been a while since I’ve used Tumblr - normally i just scroll through to see everyone’s reactions and thoughts to the episodes.

I think season 2 has been pretty good so far! It’s always a pain trying to find out what order the episodes should be watched for each season though. Other than that, I REALLY….enjoyed Malediktator. I mean, since the start of the series up to this point Chloe has been a KEY piece in akuma attacks but now that she seems to be turning around..? I’m excited to see where they’ll go from here and how she’ll develop as a character! What about you? How are you feeling about season 2?
