I’m a hardcore Marichat shipper. I have been since season 1. I just shut up about it because of lack of Marichat content, but LISTEN!
I’m just as excited about this leaked Marichat clip as the next Marichat shipper, but it honestly terrifies me.
There are SO many ways this could turn out, but knowing the pattern of this show and how they like to make Marinette seem like a bad person over even her smallest mistakes, this big mistake she makes in the clip can stir up a BIG storm.
First of all, as far as we know, Marinette lies to Chat about having a crush on him. That is a huge mistake. I know she was panicking and she can end up even spitting out the truth when she’s nervous, but this is bigger than that, people.
We have Chat, the local furry who has been rejected multiple times by his partner, being told this adorable girl in his class, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, actually likes him.
Now, I was once 14-15 years old, and I remember falling for people over the simplest shit. A guy would smile at me and I’d suddenly feel butterflies.
Now take Adrien, a boy who grew up in a secluded household, and imagine being in his situation in this clip.
A GIRL LITERALLY CONFESSED SHE HAD A CRUSH ON HIM! And as they said on Twitter, this is the first time this has ever. happened.
Now what terrifies me is the fact he’s most likely going to be impacted by this lie. Like, a lot. I mean, it’s freakin’ Marinette Dupain-Cheng. The shy girl he called their everyday ladybug. The girl he protects like his life depends on it whenever she’s put in any kind of dangerous situation. He’s most likely going to be in class the day after that and think, “Oh shit… I’m in love with her…” the moment she smiles.
But what the hell is going to happen if he finds out her confession was a lie?!
He’s going to be heartbroken!
Most likely even akumatized!
And then we’ll end up with him having trust issues with Marinette!
Then, later on? When Marinette finally musters up enough courage to confess to Adrien? ADRIEN MIGHT NOT EVEN BELIEVE HER!
AND THEN MARINETTE MIGHT GET AKUMATIZED!
AND THEN PARIS WILL BE FUCKING DOOMED!
I MEAN… JUST THINK ABOUT THAT FOR ONE SECOND!

Okay, I’m slow.
When I read the translation of that spoiler and saw that Chat Noir said it was the first time a girl had ever liked him, I was, like, ‘Pfft. You’re Adrien Agreste and girls throw themselves at you all the time.’
Then my brain kicked in (just a little) No. This is the first time a girl has ever said they like CHAT NOIR.
And that must mean so much to Adrien.
Being Chat Noir gives Adrien some much needed freedom and one of those freedoms is to behave, say and do whatever he feels. Adrien hides so much of himself away from his family, friends and the general public because he’s actually a little shy, lacks confidence, has low self esteem and is under pressure to behave a certain way because he and his father are famous and he has a reputation to uphold.
He was looking for approval from Marinette in Season 1 in Evillustrator when he went a bit overboard trying to impress her (remember all the flexing, posing, bowing and referring to her as Princess?) and then approached her later on as Adrien and asked her what she thought about Chat Noir, or rather, what she thought about him, Adrien Agreste, and that side of himself he dare not reveal to others. And he sort of got a lukewarm response from her back then? Now here she is, a girl he really likes (way more than he actually knows) and she’s telling him she loves Chat Noir, she loves that side of him, the side he really wants to share with someone.
I can see MariChat being a stepping stone to more Adrienette because it’d make sense that he’d try to get closer to Marinette as Adrien if he thinks she’s infatuated with Chat.
But I can also see it leading to heartbreak if Adrien ever finds out that Marinette was lying* when she said she liked Chat.
(* - Honestly I think she does
love Chat as well but her head is too full of Adrien to let herself see it)
