Everybody is throwing out theories for the new ep. So far I've seen "reversed love square", Marinette admitting about lying, and Marinette confessing she actually likes Adrien to Chat Noir. I just want to put this out there, but let's not forget the very heartbreaking possibility that Chat Noir rejects Marinette because he likes Ladybug.

My takes on these, in order:

  1. Between how much Plagg teases that Marinette isn’t “JUST a friend,” and Chat’s reaction to her, I certainly have hopes that maybe he might explore feelings for Marinette here. However, I don’t think it’ll be a “reverse love square” throughout the rest of the season; no doubt, the arc will be contained within this episode. 
  2. I think Marinette, as she usually does, will have to admit to her mistakes by the end of the episode, which in this case would mean telling Chat she likes someone else. Which brings me to–
  3. Yes, I think this episode very well could end with Mari being like “actually, if you can keep a secret, I have a crush on Adrien Agreste”, which of course will NOT help the reverse crush thing; and finally, getting to your point:
  4. Yeah, Chat might consider Marinette in this ep, but his heart is sold on Ladybug (plot of Frozer, remember?) so I think he too will have to deal with that this ep. I don’t think Mari will necessarily be sad, because she is crazy for Adrien, but I do hope these two can have an established friendship after this ep.

To add on my opinion: I don’t think this episode will end with any kind of identity reveal. I haven’t seen that take yet, but I’d just like to throw out there that I don’t think this episode will lead to a definitive reveal (in spite of the clip).

(SPOILER ALERT) Here’s my theory: what if…

From all of the leaks I got an idea

What if Gabriel got inspired of the fusion transformations (like DragonBug and Snake Noir) and maybe he will risk (even if the Miraculous of the Peacock is dangerous) using the Miraculous of the Butterfly with the Miraculous of the Peacock?

I could imagine he being strong and powerful with both the power of akumatize and get allies for the villains…

Petty Quartet

Context: Marinette has been averaging four afternoons a week at the Agreste household and Gabriel and Nathalie have pretty much adopted her as their second part-time child.


Gabriel: Marinette, you really spend a lot of time here

Marinette: Guess I do

Nathalie: You’re nearly like a second child to this family

Adrien: Only sees her a limited time, criticises her work, pushes her to be perfect, and spends more time with an assistant than dad? It checks out

Marinette: Except I don’t get driven everywhere, can go out with friends when I want, have friends other than Chloe, and am happy

Adrien: You’re right. It doesn’t add up

Marinette: I’m really sorry but I can’t come to study at your place this week. My parents are grounding me 

Gabriel (overhearing): Nathalie, get Gorilla to bring the car around we’re going to the bakery

Marinette: You really don’t have to. It’s within-

Gabriel: I’m going to lecture them on the damage isolating a child and denying them social interactions with people their own age can cause

Adrien: So was I the test group for this hypothesis?

Gabriel: Pardon? I was talking about the impact it would have on me.

Adrien: No I was just wondering when you figured out social interaction was good

Tom: I thank you for having Marinette study at your house and have accepted her, but she needed to be punished

Adrien: Why not just force her to practice piano 4 hours a day?

Gabriel: Not the time

Adrien: It never is

Gabriel: So a week without Marinette. What ever shall we do?

Adrien: Spend time with your actual child?

Gabriel: He disappears all the time so that’s off the table

Adrien: I know, spend time together watching a movie so he doesn’t have to sneak out

Gabriel: …..

Adrien: Don’t worry about it. It’ll just give me a chapter of my biography “My Traumatic Childhood: How I was raised by the assistant”

Nathalie: Don’t you mean “My traumatic childhood: Growing up with a rock climbing wall, massive tv, and foosball table in my two story bedroom”?

Gabriel: Chapter 3: My difficult teenage years of having a rich father

Nathalie: Chapter 4: How to make a girl lose interest? Call her a ‘good friend’

Adrien: I think I liked it better when you weren’t here

Gabriel: Chapter 5: Complaining when I get what I want

Adrien: Just because I have material possessions does not mean my childhood wasn’t traumatic or you are a good parent

Gabriel:…. Chapter 6: Dad set me up for success and I have first world problems

Marinette came back the following week. Everyone had just spent the week planning out pettiness and small pranks. 

Gabriel “grounded” Marinette, she yelled “you’re not my real dad!” Adrien chimes in “at this stage he’s barely mine”

Marinette gave Gabriel a device Max designed that alerts you when a person is near so you can avoid all social interaction. 

Adrien and Marinette team up to constantly tell Nathalie she is running late, give Gabriel parenting advice, and even put up a fake ‘for sale’ notice as the place is so empty and lifeless they thought it was abandoned
