it actually is. as someone who dedicated his entire life to making family oriented films for many generations of children filled with magic, love, fantasy, and innocence. of course he’s disgusted with how otaku culture has heavily influenced most, if not all anime.
Thomas Astruc: No spoiler. Oh for you, a little one: (his/her) family comes from Réunion.
me: The family of…? 😅
Thomas Astruc: have to guess ;-)
Good news: one of the two PoC comes from Réunion, a French-owned island in the Indian Ocean (near Africa)! Bad news: Astruc used singular third person, which in French doesn’t indicate their gender. In other words, we don’t know whether it’s Alya or Nino.
BAGUETTE: The new episode was super!! >w< Did I mishear or was the last name of one of the chefs “Césaire”?
BAGUETTE: If I heard right, that makes me happy, as a resident of Martinique and reader of Aimé Césaire haha ;u;
Thomas Astruc: That’s the case. A series takes place in France for once, we can’t forget the overseas departments and territories, can we?
Thomas Astruc: and yes, Alya’s family is originally from Martinique.
In Kung Food we saw Alya’s mom again, and Papapillon gave us her name, Marlena Césaire. But as these tweets show, their family name is a shoutout to Aimé Césaire, an author, poet and politician from the French island of Martinique in the Carribean.
Now, I reblogged the original post because, by process of elimination, it seems that Nino is from Réunion. Awesome!

I’ve just seen this with my friends that like anime A LOT. They always emphasize the difference between japanese, chinese, korean blah blah but as in an defensive mood. JUST LIKE THIS:
Look at his face, he’s like “DUUUH” ( An otaku friend has gave me that look, and it hurts :’( )
Oh my poor child Adrien, there is more than anime, look, there is a precious french tv show called Miraculous, you should totally try it hehe
1) This has nothing to do with anime, Chloe was straight up being racist by seeing that Master Cheng was Asian and therefore just assuming he was Japanese and should be making sushi
2) He wasn’t being defensive. If anything, he was calling her out for being racist.
2) Also “chinese, korean, japanese blah blah”. Way to be respectful to the myriad of Asian cultures.
3) I still have no idea what this has to do with being an otaku. A lot of people know that sushi is a Japanese dish. You don’t have to watch anime 24/7 to know at least that bit of Japanese culture.
@pisces-royalty I am so sorry!! I really didn’t mean to offend. I also apologize for my improper vocabulary. I didn’t have idea I was being disrespectful.there :c Maybe I didn’t explain well what I was thinking. Sorry, sorry, sorry :( And don’t worry Miraculer friend, I’ll fix it. Thanks for letting me know those points, it’s not rude at all. :)
