it’s clear this moment was adrien displaying discomfort with his dynamic with ladybug, but does anyone else think it’s kinda sad it was never cleared up for him?

i mean, sure, ladybug couldn’t have piloted that enormous pacific rim robot alone, but if anything chat noir’s uselessness next to her was only affirmed. he tried to take charge and she immediately snapped at him for not giving her control, then his efforts to pilot fell flat and made him look foolish, then ladybug left him in the robot when she leaped out to use lucky charm. she was snappier with him than usual, so there wasn’t even the usual banter or the little heartfelt moments where ladybug makes it clear she needs chat noir, no matter what he might think.

it ended with adrien giving up his place in the tournament to marinette too; and while that was a generous sacrifice and he didn’t seem to mind, it still implies his internal conflict isn’t resolved. his situation with marinette is still a parallel to his dynamic with ladybug, and stepping down from the tournament to give way for the better person implies that, instead of resolving his internal conflict, he’s only accepted it and squashed down the hard feelings which were clearly upsetting him back in marinette’s room. he’s accepted he’s not on ladybug’s level; and that’s not good - they’re equals, and it’s not fair that adrien doesn’t know that.

i dunno, it’s a very small thing, but since there’s hardly any continuity between episodes i think it should have been resolved (at least partially) in the same story it began in. it kinda seems like they forgot the side plot they had with adrien in favour of making marinette’s story end with the best case scenario…

This oneshot was inspired by Episode 14 – Le Gamer because of that one scene where Adrien said that he’s not good enough to fight alongside Marinette at the UMS tournament.
