“I understand that you’re my bodyguard but that was a freaking FRISBEE not a nuclear bomb jesus christ- Hey why are you still on top of me and why have I not noticed how beautiful you are?”- marichat AU

fabulousanima answered:

So because it’s Marichat, I made it Chat protecting Marinette, but it definitely could happen in reverse as well.  I hope you enjoy!

“This place is rife with danger, Princess.  We need to be careful.”

Marinette sighs, rolling her eyes skyward.  “Agent Chat, I’ve asked you at least a hundred times.  Please don’t call me that.”

“But you are a princess.”

“Yeah, but while I’m at university, I can just be Marinette.”  She shifts and readjusts the strap of her computer bag.  “I get to just be normal.”

She looks normal, walking across campus in a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt emblazoned with the logo of the university, but he does not, dressed in a well-pressed suit with a thin black mask across the bridge of his nose.  The private security agency insists that all their operatives hide their identities; she has never seen him without the mask nor does she know him by any other name but his codename.  Of all her guards, he is closest to her in age, but he takes the job more seriously than all the others combined.

“Heads up!”

Marinette looks up just in time to see a frisbee coming towards her.  She grins, reaching out to catch it and return it, but before she can, she hears a loud “Watch out!” and feels something slam into her middle.

The wind gets knocked out of her as she hits the ground.  She can smell crushed grass as she gets her bearings.  Marinette can hear people calling out to see if she’s okay, but the only thing she can see are Chat’s eyes.

She’s never been this close, and she can finally see through the filament; the green of the mask has been hiding the green of his eyes.  But unlike the unreal shade of green they normally look, she can see that they are really a deep verdant hue, and there are freckles sprinkled across the bridge of his nose–

“Ahem,” Marinette says a little awkwardly.  Chat blinks, then launches off of her, muttering apologies.  She feels the heat in her face as she gets to her feet and watches one of the boys run over to collect the frisbee.  “It wasn’t a bomb, Chat.  I could’ve taken care of a frisbee.”

He turns to her and says simply, “I won’t ever let you get hurt,” and for some reason the words send a shiver down her spine that feels out of place in the warm September air.
