AU where Marinette and Adrien are betting on who will figure out Lila is lying first/last 

Marinette: I still reckon Nino’s going to figure it out. He just scolded me for eavesdropping but didn’t doubt what I say

Adrien: No, Alya does the ladyblog. As a journalist-

Marinette: When challenged she asked me for a source

Adrien: But Max has to figure it before Nino

Marinette: Lila convinced him a corner of a napkin, a scrunched up napkin, could scratch his eye open

Adrien: What about Mylene?

Marinette: Snapped at me for throwing a napkin

Meanwhile the rest of the class are going along with Lila as they are all betting on a) when will Adrienette happen and b) when Marinette will snap properly.

Max: How did she not call me an idiot when I went along with the napkin story? I’m wearing glasses!

Alya: Maybe she thought it was a joke? Still don’t know how I got away with ‘did you really think I would let you sit alone’ when that morning I had. She’s too nice

Nino: You asking for sources I was sure was going to get her to cross the line

Chloe: You are all fools. She put up with me for years, what Lila is doing is nothing. As I betted, she isn’t going to snap

Adrien: What are you guys talking about?

Plagg: She also knows the god of destruction and I will turn you to ash if you continue bullying her

Lila: I don’t even know how I could beat that

Marinette: Don’t try. At least 3 other classmates have lesser gods as friends as well.

Tikki: And I’m sure Cronoo, the kwami of time, the first kwami would love to Marinette as well

Marinette:….Wait. Forget Lila for a second. There was a kwami before you?!

Tikki: Someone had to create time for there to be a start of the universe for me to have something to create. It’s a bit paradoxical though. 

Lila: Can we get back to how there are gods!!

The Multimouse Dilemma:

At this point, it is equally possible for Marinette to get her Miraculous from either Ladybug or Chat Noir.  (A strong argument could also be made for Alya, but only if Ladybug expands the pool of knowledge of Master Fu.  This is probably unlikely unless Alya and Nino get to keep their miraculous for the long haul.)

I think we can all agree that Chat Noir giving Marinette the Miraculous is just so much opportunity for humor and heart and hijinks.  Only letting both of their friendships growing steadily into something more.

But please also consider the high-key drama of Ladybug giving Marinette the Mouse Miraculous.

  • Chat Noir wouldn’t necessarily know who was behind the mask…at least not at first…
  • MariMouse satisfyingly sassing Chat Noir in the wake of WereDad fallout.
  • Chat Noir slowly putting the pieces together as MariMouse tries to strongly delineate herself from Ladybug, by acting differently.
  • But only acts even more like Marinette than she usually does as Ladybug.
  • Not that either really works well because she’s already pretty darned close between Marinette and Ladybug.  (Enough so that Captain Oblivious Adrien has already mentioned it canonically.)
  • Chat gets even more suspicious when he can’t help but notice that he never sees Ladybug and Marinette in the same place at once.  
  • Oh!No!Reveal! after Adrien eventually confirms his growing suspicions.
  • Because he’s already kind of shot her down twice – whether (he thinks) she’s realized it or not – as himself and as Chat Noir.
  • But also…she’s been shooting him down as Ladybug since the beginning.
  • But then…THEN! she’d confessed to him as herself.
  • And like a dolt, he’d screwed that up.
  • Queue a possible brief, close to Akumatization moment, probably foiled either by Nino or Plagg (or some combination thereof)…pointing out that all hope isn’t lost.  If she’d liked him once, there was still some chance she might still have it in herself to like him again.
  • (insert anime-watching, shoujo-manga-reading training montage)
  • Hope renewed, Adrien decides to woo Maribug every which way he can…because it’s now more obvious to him than ever that he needs to win her heart from both sides of his own mask.
