He can’t stop staring at her legs.
It’s not like he’s being totally, y’know, gross. She stripped out of her thigh socks the second she kicked off her boots, insisting that she was too hot to wear them anymore. Alyn hadn’t been looking then. He’d seen more of her legs before; after all, she is a ballerina.
But they’re on the couch now - more of a loveseat really - watching TV and she’s got her legs sprawled across his lap. There’s something iridescent about her skin and while she’s completely enthralled with the Discovery Channel, he lets himself look at her.
“See something you like?”
He jerks his eyes away from where the hem of her skirt meets her thighs and finds his gaze inexplicably drawn straight to hers. She’s pulling on him on purpose; he feels the tug that keeps his eyes glued on hers and fuck, why is he blushing?
She smirks. It’s not an expression he sees on her face very often. Alyn shoves her legs off his lap. “No. I was wondering when you’d take a hint.”
A raised eyebrow as she straightens up. “I think I got the hint. You get that same dazed look on your stupid face every time you see me dance, too, you know.”
Shit. He feels his face get hotter as her satisfaction grows and still he can’t look away to hide his expression. Vera shifts her position so that their thighs are touching and then leans against his shoulder, breaking their eye contact.
“I don’t mind,” she says softly.
He lets out an embarrassed breath, and reaches across to brush her bangs out of her eyes. “You probably should.”
Her attention still attracted to the TV, she curls her arm under and around his. “Probably. But I like it when you look at me.”
Alyn’s heart trips over itself. Did she really just say that out loud? “Well,” he says, watching the animals on the television screen without having the slightest clue as to what the program is about, “everyone looks at you, Vera.”
She tucks her head in further against his shoulder. “Not the way you do.”
