Hey, sorry, I'm a bit confused: Why are some people so agitated about Korea airing the origin-episode earlier? And what'd the problem be with watching it? I just genuinely don't understand and the only explanations I can find for it are that they're just plain racist or pointlessly elitist about completely absurd things what I think is missing something?

Hi anon! Thanks for asking! <3 However, I’m afraid my opinion might be a bit unpopular, haha. ^^;

So, it was recently revealed that Korea, on March 1st, would be airing the first origin episode. However, this was what creator Thomas Astruc had to say about that:

The main reason why people are against watching it is because….Thomas Astruc said so. That’s it. While I understand that Thomas Astruc did create the show and that we should respect his wishes, he’s already admitted before that the order doesn’t matter.

And if I remember correctly, he’s also admitted that he has no control over what it is that each individual country airs and when.

So what I’m saying is that…I actually don’t really understand why the fandom is so divided on this issue. If what he’s been saying all this time has been true thus far, there shouldn’t be any spoilers in the origin episodes. (There couldn’t be anyway. The meaning of origins is that it comes before everything else. You can’t spoil something when everything that there is to spoil comes after the event.) And what bothered me was his response to this:

To me, this came off as somewhat racist. Yes, the canon language is French. However, the Korean dub has always relatively aligned well with the French dub, so they should be the same amount of canon. This isn’t 4kids, after all. (I also just didn’t like his lowkey insult of fansubbing? Because even if it were the French dub, we would still have fansubbing anyway?? And he probably wouldn’t be as against that???)

So, in short, there’s no substantial foundation for the entire debate/scandal/”civil war” over the topic other than the fact that Thomas Astruc told us not to. I don’t personally find a problem with watching it as long as you respect people’s wishes and tag your posts or try your best to not spoil them.
